Today we’d like to introduce you to Franco Albarran.
Franco, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I was 2 years old, my family emigrated from Mexico City to Houston, and in the mid 90’s we became proud US Citizens. I’m the youngest child of 10 siblings and the only one to attend college and earn a college degree.
I started Albarran Architects in 2004 providing custom residential design services. Over time, I became interested in extending the design process to include construction services and began providing Design + Build services in 2010.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growth in most industries is generally not a smooth process. There is an inherent learning curve that leads to professional development over time. Architecture favors the precise and you’re are afforded the luxury of time during the design process.
Construction requires foresight and planning prior to initiation of the project and more adaptability and flexibility in the field. Learning to meld the two well is a gradual process that requires patience and persistence.
Albarran Architects – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Albarran Architects is a boutique architectural studio that specializes in custom residential design. Construction services are offered for a limited number of projects annually to allow us to focus adequately on the details of each project.
I am most proud of the growth of my company over time and the expanded scope of services I now provide.
I believe what sets Albarran Architects apart is our ability to see a project through from inception to completed construction with the same design professional managing the entire process. Traditionally, architects have not been involved in the construction process. By combining the architectural perspective to the construction process, we are able to bring a higher level of control that elevates the value of the project.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment is to see the expanded scope of services I provide. Becoming an architect that designs and builds has always been a childhood dream of mine.
