Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriel Hernandez.
Gabriel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I moved to the United States from Venezuela 12 years ago due to the country’s status. I started taking photos seven years ago and would borrow my friend’s camera when I could and go out to take photos of nature and the city. I spent four years learning the camera and how to edit my photos to eventually figure out my style. Doing all of this helped me find my niche of being a fashion photographer and I’ve been doing that for the past three years. I have shot for multiple local brands and for fashion show events held in the city. I got to where I am today by simply remaining consistent with my work, even on my toughest days.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road; the biggest struggle is dealing with insincere people. I have had to make a lot of changes in my life due to this problem. Not everyone in this industry is your friend. A lot of these people want to use you for your talents so that they themselves can grow and will eventually get rid of you when they don’t need you anymore. They view you as replaceable. Another struggle of mine was finding my photography style. It took me years to find exactly what I wanted, but eventually, I found my style and stuck with it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a full-time photographer who specializes in fashion. The angles my photos are taken from and the tones of the photo are what I’m most known for. I’m most proud of being featured in multiple fashion magazines throughout the years. What sets me apart from others is my passion for photography and my hard work shown through my photos.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
The best advice that I have for those who are starting out is to create for yourself. I wish I had known when I was starting out to never copy someone else’s work, especially if you look up to those certain people. Do it for yourself, whether people like it or not.
