Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabrielle Ortega.
Gabrielle, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started doing hair and make up when I was 15 just for fun and slowly but surely realized that I was good at what I did. I would do family and friends hair make up for Special events, and then from there would get recommended To others. After high school I decided that I wanted to go to cosmetology school so I attended Paul Mitchell And was a part-time student because I was working a full-time job at a salon while in school. Developed a passion for hair coloring, styling, makeup, and also learn how to braid from YouTube. After graduating school I started working at a Barbershop called faded by few and I have been there for the last three years. I started an Instagram with hopes of just sharing my work with the world but ended up reaching out to so many people by creating small clips of my Daily journey as a hairstylist and makeup artist. I build my clientele with so many people, referrals from Instagram, Recommendations from friends, and even meeting people out at social events Who have now became my regulars—remembering the days when I only have one client a week to now having a full booked weekly schedule. I love what I do and want to share my passion and creativity with the world, one client, at a time.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has been long and definitely had so many struggles along the way. There is a point in time where I literally did not have a life because I went to school and work a full-time job six days a week. Going to school, they taught you the basics but actually getting out in the real world and testing things out myself and learning from my mistakes is what has to help me grow as a stylist.
Please tell us about your business.
My business includes hair coloring services, hair styling (updos), Treatments, Braiding, Makeup, and haircuts. I think what sets me apart from others is that I am my true self and live in my truth. I am very transparent with my clients and I am all about having a good time during our service. I make sure that they know that they are well taken care of and also a place where they can come & give their wildest ideas & know that I will be expressing my real creativity through their hair.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory would have to be me Finding out that I had a gift and that was Enhancing peoples beauty.
