Today we’d like to introduce you to Gloria Ramos.
Gloria, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Being raised in a Mexican home is what started my passion for coffee. I always told myself growing up that all I wanted was to open my own coffee shop. But for that I had to start somewhere. I used to take the metro to go to the Starbucks in downtown Houston. Every day that’s where I was, right after school. The manger from that store loved me. When she found out that I had gotten approved for my daca she offered to help me get a job there, but at another store. I was so happy! My senior year and I was a Starbucks employee. The feeling was real I was actually working in a placed I loved. Happily to say that I know have five years working there! But that’s not all!
In 2017 when I gave birth to my son, I had taken a maternity leave of three months. I wasn’t working, so I decided to do something that I would actually enjoy in the meantime while having my son with me. So… I decided to start food blogging. Almost everyday was a new food place. I then started with coffee shops, traveling to Dallas, Austin & Waco to try different coffee shops. If I’m honest, I’ve probably been to 50 shops. And still going strong… getting inspiration of how I would like my coffee shop.. one day it will happen. In the meantime, I enjoy having coffee with my son, taking him places. Just enjoying motherhood while also getting a sip of different coffee shops.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has not been smooth. Specially as mom. Balancing work, motherhood and home is quite a struggle. Currently working two jobs. This year has been quite hard for me. But at the end of the day, I just like to think very positive. Like they say, “after the rainbow comes the sunshine”.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
My city is so amazing because in case of an emergency we all come together. Whether we know each other or not. We are there to help.
