Meet Gulzar Saleem of Casa Dei Bambini Riverstone in Missouri city

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gulzar Saleem.

Gulzar, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Let me introduce my self as a Montessori teacher, blogger, and mentor. I don’t own a business but I’m a Montessori blog writer.

It all started in 2016. I came to the USA in October that time I had no idea what I’m doing with my life. I was pursuing my education in pharmacy back home in Pakistan. But when I came here things were changed and eventually, I lost my interest in pharmacy.

I still remember the first Montessori job interview at Casa Dei Bambini Riverstone. It was a disaster for me but I made my director cry we talk about children and we got emotional. I started my journey as an assistant teacher knowing the fact that I’m not good with children. But somehow, I managed to gain an interest in Montessori. Every time I came to school, it gives me motivation and positivity to work with young minds. But I was lost sometimes because I don’t know the basics of Montessori until I did my Montessori training in 2018. It was a life-changing experience for me. I can see the opposite side of the picture when I did my training. A huge shout out to all my instructors and cohorts, they supported me in all my aspects. Before that, I was thinking that Montessori is only for children but I was wrong, it is for everyone. I still think sometimes am I doing right for my students? How I can change their life in a positive way?

But then I took a deep breath and look forward to another day. I started blog writing during this pandemic. I saw parents freaking out asking me how I can help the child? I thought to start blog writing and this is the best way to convey your thoughts to community.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all. It was a rough patch. I was struggling with anxiety, fear, and depression everywhere. I still remember those days when the teachers were not supported at all. I had a tough time finishing my endless assignments. I was 6 months pregnant when I finished my training. It wasn’t easy at all.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Well, I don’t own any business but I do own a blog writing. It is free for everyone. The proudest thing I can say that I’m giving back to my community as a Montessorian.

What were you like growing up?
I like books, Sports. And recently I discovered that I can write good stuff.
