Today we’d like to introduce you to Jade McFadden.
Jade, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve loved fashion all of my life! My mother was a big influence and also, my father, as well! My mother passed away when I was a kid (1998) and my father passed away in 2015. My mother was very much into the fashion and beauty world! She always dressed very nicely, her hair and nails were always done, and she always had a good collection of bags, shoes, and perfume! My father was a great dresser, as well! He was very athletic, with a military background, but also wore very nice suits, hats, shoes, and he also had great a collection of cologne!
A lot of my pieces are inspired by my parents, and of course, a little of my own personal style. I like to call it, “Vintage-Inspiration, Mod-Liberation”. I think my designs are very clean with a little edge, classic, yet fun, bold, and mysterious!
As a child, I’d sketch clothes. I knew one day I’d become a designer, I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but I knew I’d eventually become one. A respected one. When I was in my late teens and early 20s, I’d style people. Most were people I knew, both female and Male. They would ask my opinion about outfits, whether in person or via phone. I’d later begin styling models for a local modeling agency. I’d style them for various photo shoots, fashion shows, commercials, &, etc. I’d later begin sort of blogging. I was a guest fashion contributor for an online magazine.
Then, in 2014, I designed my first freelance collection, that only consisted of women’s clothing.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. My biggest struggle so far is getting the brand out there and gaining the same respect, just as other well-known designers.
Although it will take a while to get to the level I want, I’m sorta proud of myself for even making it this far. I just have to keep going!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with JM | Jade McFadden – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
In May of last year (2018), I started my own brand. I knew I wanted my brand to stand out from any other brand! I wanted to make History! A FEMALE designer who is making History… and that is exactly what I did. Notably, I was and am one of the first female designers EVER to have a fashion and lifestyle brand that caters to both female and male (let’s not forget the furniture collection and dinnerware that I designed!) Of course, I have a limited edition of kids clothing, but when have you ever heard of a female designer whose brand is named solely after herself, design men clothing? And not just tops and bottoms, but boxer briefs and ties! Lol, I want men to feel just as confident wearing a female’s name, just as they would a male’s name. I mean, if women can wear a man’s name (Male designer) on their undergarments, why can’t a man be just as confident and comfortable in wearing my name?
In November of 2018, my business partner, Ozzy and I launched my website. It’s what I also like to call an “Affordable Luxury” brand. It’s an upscale brand, but affordable!
– Well, I’d say aside from being featured in magazines, I’d say, one of my most proudest moments was when a former NBA Player asked me to be apart of an Awards Show, that will be in Vegas in May. He asked me to become a sponsor send items for VIP Gift Bags from my line because he loves it! And the committee decided to sorta broadcast my jewelry pieces. People absolutely love the watches in my collection! They will display my brand and other various from my brand for the VIP Gift Bags at the Awards Show!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan on expanding my brand… shoes, women and men personal kits, lipstick, nail polish, perfume/cologne, and many other products in different fields that will be apart of the brand!
