Meet James Fernandez

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Fernandez.

James, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My parents split when I was 12 years old. It took a toll on my life. And I needed to find something to help cope with that depression. And so once I got to. High school they had a photography program, but I didn’t have money at the time. So through all my high school life, I couldn’t pursue that goal. I finished high school and got a better job.

Then was finally able to get a camera. I did my first photo shoot in April of this year. After that, it’s hit off very well. I love what I do. And I won’t let anyone get in the way of what I love. Connecting and meeting new people. Warms my heart.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a smooth ride along the way. At first, it was hard trying to find people to model for me. But once I went to my first meet up, Houston hype 2., that was the best thing I’ve done. Going to those meetups help a lot. But it can be difficult at times.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I am a portrait/ landscape photographer. Mostly in portraits. I love capturing good memories for people that will last forever, being behind the camera, is something I believe I was meant to do. I like being in front of the camera as well, but not as much as I love being behind it, I don’t really think I’m separate from others.

I consider my self equal with other photographers, it doesn’t matter if they are a landscape photographer or a portrait photographer, everyone does have a different style of their own work. But we are all equal. And we’re a creative family.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
For me, success is pursuing that hard goal in life and going all out. I eventually wanna be known from all over. And I believe I can do to that. I put love and hard work into what I do.

I also want to have my own studio. Once I get my own little studio. I can do photo shoots from there. That will help a lot. Because having my own studio means I’ll be able to have my own office, which I like — a lot.
