Meet Jamie R. Wright

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie R. Wright.

Hi Jamie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Jamie Rae Wright. I am the CEO and Founder of Jamie R. Wright, LLC. We are a consulting firm based out of Houston, Texas, that provides survivor-led awareness, education, and empowerment services to communities impacted by domestic and intimate partner violence.

Jamie R. Wright, LLC was created from my lived experience of finding myself essentially homeless and having to seek safety and shelter at the Houston Area Women’s Center during the pandemic as a result of domestic violence. After understanding the dynamics of domestic violence, why I was accepting of it, and beginning my healing journey, I feel it is my life’s purpose to help others overcome the impacts of domestic and intimate partner violence. I have appeared on appeared on 60 Minutes, BBC News, various podcasts and news channels locally, around the world and throughout the United States. I have also appeared on The Doctor’s TV Show with Dr. Ian Smith!

I am humbled and proud to say that I now serve on the Board of Directors for the Houston Area Women’s Center (HAWC) and Unsilenced Voices; both are non-profit organizations that serve communities impacted by domestic and intimate partner violence. Lastly and most importantly, I enjoy my newfound freedom in life!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Parts have been super smooth and mind-blowing, while I’ve certainly have had my struggles. One of the biggest struggles have been continuing to believe in myself when I’m not sure how opening up the conversation on such a vulnerable topic will land for some people. I have to remind myself that I must stay the course, continue to lean into, what I honestly feel is my life purpose, and the Universe/my Creator will handle the rest. The second is managing the funding it has taken to start my LLC while maintaining my personal day-to-day living expenses.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
By trade, I am a Senior Management and Program Analyst. And I absolutely love what I do! So, it’s ‘natural’ for me to analyze domestic and intimate partner violence in an effort to ‘solve’ the problem…right (shrugging shoulders!)

I am most proud of being a former client of the Houston Area Women’s Center and now I have the honor of serving on the board of directors being a voice for those of us who have survived domestic and intimate partner violence.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
The old saying, in my opinion, is true… no risk, no reward. I’ve taken several risks throughout my life. The most recent risk I’d say I took is making the decision to stay at the Houston Area Women’s Center in April 2020, despite feeling embarrassed, ashamed and having a tremendous amount of fear that I may contract COVID-19.

If you’d like to book Jamie for a speaking engagement to share the “Power of Overcoming | How to Overcome Obstacles and Adversities”, and/or “#URWorthIt | How to Go From Shame ~ 2 ~ Self-Worth”, and/or to provide “Survivor-led Domestic and Intimate Partner Violence Awareness, Education, and Empowerment” workshops, please visit https://jamierwright.com.
