Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaqueline Torres.
Jaqueline, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started doing eyelash extensions about two years ago with the help of someone I consider a mentor for me. I had my son a year prior to that and when I tried returning to make up a lot of companies did not like the fact that I had taken a year off from work.
Through a friend, I heard of the job opening and she took me in with open arms, which is something I will forever be grateful to her for. After about a year and a half, it was just time to part ways due to other circumstances but no hard feelings are there. I then started working at a waxing place and left due to a higher paying job offer.
That one didn’t work out so I was jobless and decided that was the time to just take a chance and start my business. Having my own business is one thing that I dreamed of since I was little so through my hard work and working three jobs at times I was able to open up my place. With the help of friends and social media, I have been able to market myself and regrow my clientele little by little.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No not at all lol! I mean, just like with anything else there are struggles, me being a single mother makes it a lot harder. At times I was working three different jobs to support my son and myself while being able to save some money for my business. Even with all of the struggles I had, I would not take it back because I’m now in a better place and I hope my business continues to grow.
The Beauty Nerd – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Well, my name is The Beauty Nerd because I am just that, a Beauty Nerd! I am obsessed with anything and everything that has to do with beauty. I specialize in eyelash extensions, lash lifts and full body waxing. I take pride in knowing that all of my clients feel my passion for making their experience the most personal that I can. I take time to listen to my client’s needs and wants and as I’m listening to them, my brain just starts creating what they are telling me that they want. Unlike most eyelash places I don’t have set “styles” of eyelash extensions, all of my clients receive a unique set customized to their eye shape and preference. Unless of course, they want something that they saw prior to coming to see me then I give them that look. I also offer Lash parties, which is something I came up with where I travel to your home or business and do your lashes along with a couple of your friend’s lashes while you all enjoy a fun time together.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me means being able to give back to my mom everything she ever did for me and fully enjoy every day with my son. The day that I am able to return everything to my mom that she has done for me, I will feel like I succeeded. Along with being able to enjoy life with my son by just being there with him for every exciting event and even being able to travel with him and show him amazing parts of the world.
