Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Britton.
Jasmine, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I think about style and fashion, I see my mother getting dressed for work in her St. John’s suit and pointed-toe pumps. I see my father in his button-down shirt, slacks, and Ferragamo shoes. I see my sister walking down the runway in vinyl pants with a crop top and arm sleeved gloves. BLK Style + Fashion was created with a culmination of my mother’s sophistication, my father’s swag, and my sister’s creativity. I grew up surrounded by fashionistas, who taught me about fashion at an early age and used what I saw to develop my own personal style and fashion. Interestingly enough, it took COVID for me to realize my passion and love for wanting to style and provide clothes for others. I recently launched BLK Style + Fashion in August and have loved being able to express my fluidity, innovation, and originality as I showcase nuanced styles and clothing options for women to wear.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting any new business, a smooth road, it is not. BLK Style + Fashion struggled through doubt to launch, comparison to other companies, and financial strains. Honestly, I was afraid of failing even before launching. I told myself that there were a million online styling and clothing companies, that my services were not needed. What I soon realized was that beyond the struggles was my greater purpose. I continued to pray, asking God to guide me in the right direction to grow my business and turn my struggles into strengths. Motivating others to express their authentic selves and feel empowered to wear what they want, has pushed me beyond doubt and in the direction to make fashion a career and not fear.

Located in Houston, Texas, BLK Style + Fashion is a women’s online clothing store and styling service that offers customers a place to find unique and timeless fashion pieces. Founded by Jasmine Britton in 2020, we sell quality merchandise to customers across the map. Whether you’re looking to be styled or purchasing select pieces, BLK Style + Fashion has something for everyone to buy and love. As far as styling services, we offer closet detoxes, travel packing, photoshoots, and seasonal/event styling. Our clothes are modern with flair and edge. Catering to women of all sizes and shapes.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up in Baltimore, I learned the value of hard work, perseverance, and entrepreneurship. I saw my parents at a young age open and create a catering business that has lasted 20+ years. Through their commitment to succeed, I engrained my own path to greatness. I can remember as early as the age of four, having structured my day as I saw my parents, laying out my own clothes, fixing my breakfast, wanting to be on time for school (not a minute late), and coming straight home to start my homework. All of this, not by force, but by pure desire to be great. As I got older, I carried the same drive and mentality. I became heavily involved in sports, such as swimming and volleyball and extracurricular activities, such as student council, diversity club, photography classes, participating in a host of medical internships/community service. I always enjoyed doing something that was active, engaging, and educational.
As far as my personality, I loved being around family, especially for holidays and birthdays, as we would all gather, eat, and party. I enjoyed watching classic Black films, like “A Low Down Dirty Shame” or “What’s Love Got To Do With It”, and quoting all the lines. I loved prank calling family members and laughing until tears streamed down my face.
