Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazmine Munoz.
Hi Jazmine, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I walked into the beauty industry I was only 19 going to college working on my 2nd degree while working at HEB. I was motivated by me best friend Yanna, mom, and nail tech Lisbeth to start my own business. I was scared to fail but just went for it because I knew it was going to take dedication and patience to build my business. It wasn’t easy at all, of course, there was times I wanted to give up but I knew I was going to have to keep trying. My first services were brow lamination and lash lift which was hard to promote since it wasn’t popular in my area. I had to promote constantly to show others the new beauty trend that was popular in LA and Uk and do lots of giveaways to interest people. I thank my family and friends who let me practice on them to perfect my skills. I wanted to further my business by adding lash extensions which was very hard at the beginning for me to learn. It took a lot of patience and time to get better and I’m still trying to get better with that service. There’s a lot of frustration and weak moments for me when I lash but I keep thinking I have to practice and keep going to get better. I’m always motivated to keep learning new services and determined to improve my skills. I still am going to school, work at as a medical assistant and keep my business on the side I promised myself to not make an excuse to stop myself for wanting more. I hope that one day I can be big and motivate other girls to be their own boss and to not depend on anyone else because us girls can go far if we just try. I work hard so that way I can be able to say I did everything by myself and came up from literally nothing and no knowledge on where to start.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was not smooth, I had to do a lot of free services to get exposure on my services (brow lamination & lash lift). In my area it’s not common for girls to get those services and I had to educate my followers on it. When I started lashes I wanted to give up since it took a lot of time and practice and also my back would be in so much pain after every client. I remember wanting to quit and crying out of frustration because I just wanted to be better and to be experienced. It of course humbled me to realizing it was gonna have to take a lot of practice .
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am most proud of my brow lamination service because if only people knew how hard it was build clientele for that. Nobody showed much interest to it at the beginning so I would literally have to do the service on myself and educate my followers every day on how it made my makeup routine easier without having to draw brows or just make getting ready easy.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
Mari & Laila (lash techs), my best friend yanna (nail tech), Lisbeth (hairstylist/nail tech) and my mom. These ladies give me so much advice and constantly encourage me to keep going. Mari and Laila gave me tips and tricks on lashes while doing 1 on 1 session with me. My best friend and mom pushed me to get my business going. Lisbeth always gives me so much advice on improving my business and has taken me under her wing. I will always have a lot of love for these girls and they have no idea on how much they impacted my life.
