Meet Jen McDonald of Jen Loves Paper in The Woodlands

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen McDonald.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2008 with a background in education, I began doodling graphics and photographing images for friends and students as I anticipated the arrival of my newborn son. Focused on life’s happy occasions, I created Jen LOVES Paper and Jen LOVES Photography to celebrate these!

What began as a small paper company and lifestyle photography business grew quickly into a full party supply business and design company.

Having moved to the Woodlands in 2010, my portfolio grew to include a variety of photography and design work for local residents as well as nonprofits. To date, the business has grown to include event graphics and party goods for anything from a 40th birthday to large fundraising galas.

My passion though for the last nine years has been volunteering with the local charity HOPE: The Will Herndon Research Fund. I have used photography and my eye for design in marketing their mission to eradicate juvenile Batten disease, which affects Woodlands local, 16 year old Will Herndon.

Though I find myself with a full schedule I still am dreaming big! Recently I purchased a 1963 airstream which I plan to use as a mobile shop to take our party goods and designs on the road!

When not designing or volunteering, I enjoy spending time with my family. I can attribute most of my success to the Woodlands community who support small businesses wholeheartedly.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Focusing on all my many ideas often been a challenge. Being artistic, I’ve always wanted my hand in every creative pot! Though recently, I’ve found my niche with my party goods shop and contract graphic design work. I plan to grow this side of my business and continue using my art to do to help others in my community!

Please tell us about Jen McDonald Designs (Jen Loves Paper).
Jen McDonald Designs (Jen Loves Paper) is two-fold. One part upscale party goods store, celebrating life’s happy occasions, second part graphic design business, working for a variety of clients including local nonprofits and small businesses. I pride myself on bringing fun and originality to any event as well as I love finding creative solutions to my client’s events or goals.

The Woodlands community has been extremely supportive of my business and as a small local online shop, shown continuous enthusiasm and support of my designs. I feel like the “go-to party source” for The Woodlands TX!

Jen LOVES Paper keeps growing more each year, for over a decade we’ve provided custom party goods for our growing community and have seen some our designs make their way across the country. I plan to grow the business by taking my shop on the road with our new airstream, as well as growing the wholesale side of my business! I want to share my passion for celebrating life’s happy occasions with as many people as possible!

I plan to maintain my design business we well,  I am excited about my recent design and branding campaign of The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce logo! As a resident for over ten years, I was thrilled to be offered this opportunity and the result definitely makes me feel accomplished.

What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been hyperactive and artistic. I remember drawing and taking pictures from a very early age. I still can’t believe 30 years later, I’ve turned that hobby as a child into a self-sustaining business that helps support my family!
