Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Morales.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am the owner/creator of Smash Therapy LLC. For years I had been dealing with anger, impulsiveness, aggression, and unfortunately depression. As a product of my environment and a child in the CPS system, life was rough and I really didn’t know how to handle any of it. As a young adult, I found boxing and learned discipline and found strength through my hardships. And in addition, I had a direct physical emotional release. Boxing saved my life, that and years of therapy. I had no idea I would have grown to be successful in boxing and pioneer as one of the first women to compete at a regional and national level in collegiate boxing, let alone even graduate high school or attend college. My life wasn’t planned and often, I felt like my life didn’t need to continue. Not only did I survive all of the painful thoughts, trauma, and excessive hardships in my life, I would then go on to graduate college with degrees in Psychology and start a career in the mental health field.
After being a mental health specialist at an acute care psychiatric facility for four years while boxing and trying to pave my way to the Olympics, life took a detour and I decided to create a space for people to vent in a physical manner. I know that working out and being an athlete isn’t for everyone and talk therapy seems so cliche` to people, so I created smash therapy so people didn’t have to talk through their thoughts, pain, or emotions. All you simply have to do is Smash through it. Breakthrough all the bullshit and keep moving. Channel that energy in an environment where consequences don’t exist and take you and your closure home afterwards. I wanted people to know (especially kids) that they are not alone, everyone has a story, and most of the time the story doesn’t matter to anyone else unless their writing it themselves.
Smash Therapy has been open for almost two years and it has served as a safe haven, an entertainment venue and a place of comfort for thousands!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Opening was very difficult. Property managers were resistant to allowing such activity in their spaces. Older people in the chamber of commerce rolled their eyes and laughed a lot. Even people I knew told me it was a stupid idea and no one would pay to break things. I had about four customers for the first two months.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Smash Therapy LLC – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Smash Therapy is a place where people can vent in a physical manner by breaking objects either for fun or therapeutic purposes. There are similar places that exist and people verbalize they like the therapeutic component and the overall energy of self-care of Smash Therapy opposed to the promotion of rage and anger.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the future, Smash Therapy will franchise and be all over and become a household name. Smash Therapy will be the face of “rage rooms”.
