Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Pinkerton.
Jennifer, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have enjoyed all things creative and been involved in many creative pursuits, but writing has been my one constant. My subject matter always gravitated towards writing about relational issues and feelings. Additionally, I wrote a book about my husband’s amazing sobriety journey and that process also put me on the path to promote healing. I began to study emotional trauma and its manifestations and wanted to share my research to help others. I went back to school to get my Master’s to be a Psychotherapist to further my knowledge. With REDHEADREVEAL, I write about mental wellness and resolving emotional trauma.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a rewarding endeavor to gain the knowledge to help others with their emotional struggles.
Jennifer Pinkerton/REDHEADREVEAL – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a mindful activist with a focus on mental wellness. As a writer, researcher, life coach and soon to be psychotherapist, my emphasis is on exploring the foundational experiences that shape us.
Trauma is the human condition and needs to be legitimized and validated. Our greatest need is to be loved, yet the manner in which we function can inhibit our ability to have emotional attunement to connect with others in a healthy way. Our foundational start in childhood is the origin of our subconscious mind. This is when our love lessons and emotional processing was created. Based on our experiences, we adopted unconscious, conditioned behavior as our coping mechanism. Now as adults we can consciously choose different patterns.
I believe that you have to “Feel to Heal” from your unresolved emotional trauma. We can adapt and become authentic, vulnerable and self-aware. Translating how trauma has affected you and resolving that damage will allow you to do the emotional work to become resilient, transform and live your life’s purpose. After all, we are active participants in our own lives. My goal with REDHEADREVEAL is to empower individuals with healing tools and support them on their wellness journey.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My father passed away when I was a child, so my memories are sparse yet I try to recall as many as possible. I do have one that plays in my mind on repeat. He would come home for work and we would lay in the grass together looking up at the clouds in the sky. We would talk about the shapes, what they could be, and what the meaning was. He was a self-aware dreamer and a thinker and that introspection shaped me. Since then, I have always looked at everything wondering what it could be and what it could mean.
