Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Rivas.
Jennifer, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started out in the makeup industry ten years ago as a District makeup artist for a well-known brand. Then two years later I took a break from makeup and started my own art company called Art by Jar selling my paintings and setting up local art shows. Then in 2012 I decided to get certified as a cosmetic tattoo artist through Faces Etc. It’s now been a little over five years now and I’m still loving every minute of my career in making clients brows, eyes and lips look beautiful and most importantly natural. I’m really seeing my business boom in the microblading technique and soon I’ll be training students on how to microblade.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting out can be scary especially building a good clientele base. As the years and my talent enhanced, it was the best feeling knowing that you can help clients feel beautiful about their new brows, eyeliner and lips.

My business is primarily focused on enhancing the look of the face. Ever since microblading has become more popular with the cosmetic tattooing industry, most of my clientele is microblading their brows. The most thing that I am proud of is having my clients trust and not only just making them look beautiful but educating them on the cosmetic tattooing industry and how it works with their face shape, skin type and their everyday lifestyle.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was always creating art, I was always in art shows. I was also into fashion and makeup at an early age. I would sit in my Mom’s room and play in her makeup bag for hours. I would also get my older brother to sit for me as I did his makeup when we were little. In High School, I was in Honors Art classes. I just love to create and I love making a blank canvas into a masterpiece, be it a client or a painting.
