Meet Jennifer Rocha of Rocha Nails in East Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Rocha.

Jennifer, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I first started doing nails I never imagined my business would grow this much, or that it would even become a business for that matter. I began doing my own nails for fun. I started by polishing my own nails and designing them in my pre-teen years. Eventually, I started working with acrylic on myself; this was my senior year in high school. As classmates and friends saw my nails, they’d ask me where I had gotten them done & of course I’d say I did them myself. So, this is how I slowly started working on others, expanding my inventory, and building up my clientele. Later on, I created my Instagram business page and that was a great boost for my business. I strongly believe that “word-of-mouth” has been one of the best ways to get my business out there, but as social media has become more common it definitely has brought me to where I am today.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being self-employed is what many dream of, but we may not always think of the obstacles we must face down the path. I consider myself a “people-person.” I’m very outgoing and communicate well, which is essential in this industry, so this has never been a problem for me. However, in order to smoothly run a business you must manage your time well and invest more time than you think. Time-management is definitely a skill I can say I had to develop once I started my business. Apart from the time I spend working on clients, I must make time to create and publish my weekly schedule, book clients, check my inventory/supplies to make sure I’m not running low on anything, shop for necessary supplies, keep up with the seasons and nail trends, post my work on Instagram, update my booking site when necessary, etc. It’s many little things that I didn’t take into consideration when I first started my business, but I must say it all pays off when you do what you love.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Rocha Nails – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am the creator and owner of Rocha Nails. I never imagined I would have my own business, but I am so glad I do. As a business owner I’ve learned so much about myself and others. It has truly shaped me into who I am today. I am most proud of stating that I did this on my own. Of course, I’ve had my parent’s support and many clients supporting me along the way as well, but, in terms of starting and developing my business, it has all been due to my efforts and conduct. I have been in business for almost four years now, and throughout the four years, I’ve been a full-time college student as well. It hasn’t been easy, but I can gladly say I’m doing great; in business as I am in school. I believe this sets me apart from others because it shows my determination to accomplish my goals.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m looking forward to opening up my own nail studio/salon in the next few years. It’s a lot of work and planning, but that’s a challenge I’m willing to take on in order to make my dreams a reality. I’m also looking forward to meeting new people as my business grows, and beautify Houston’s nails!
