Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Peaches.
Jeremy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up, I always had a passion for Agriculture plants also animals, I always looked at it as therapy for me. I was born in Greenville, Mississippi in the Delta in 1992, but in 1998, my single mother moved to Houston to provide a better life for her children. Coming to the city was different because you never saw farms like you did at home also it was hard getting fresh produce. So, I knew from that long 8-hour drive to Texas, I wanted to farm from seeing large fields as far as the eyes can see. So, during elementary, middle, and high school continued gardening, taking care of horses, and eventually going to college getting a Bachelors of Science in Agriculture. Fast forward to May of 2015 upon my graduation from Prairie View A&M University, I realized Houston was gaining momentum in the organic food movement where landowners, schools, and companies wanted more organic garden, farm, greenhouse, and marketing services, they needed advice in Aquaponics, Hydroponics, and Commercial Organic Vegetable Production, so I created Fresh Life Organic FLO an Agriculture Consultant and Management Services that also sells Farm Fresh Produce. I created FLO to provide a service that is hard to find or get in an urban or rural setting. I wanted to help anyone with their agricultural needs.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road on this task. Being an Agriculture Consultant and a farmer is hard work and confusing sometimes because everything we have something to do with mother nature, which no one can dictate. Also, being a farmer let alone, a black farmer is hard when you don’t have the land or capital, so you have to work twice as hard and be creative to turn a profit in the beginning.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Fresh Life Organic (FLO) – what should we know?
FreshLifeOrganic is an Agriculture consulting, service, and farm company that specializes in Aquaponics/ Hydroponics, row crop farming, operations, risk management, and marketing agriculture products. We are known for sustainable agriculture planning designing, building, and maintaining farms, gardens, greenhouse. We also sell the organic vegetables we grow in the community, restaurant, and distributors. We are most proud of our customers and the projects we have completed, the education we have provided to the people in the city of Houston. What sets FLO apart from everyone else is the passion we have for what we do, it’s not all about the money, with us, if we didn’t have to pay bills, we would truly do this for free. We don’t just want to get a check we want our customers to learn what we’re doing so they can pass the services were provided on to others who need it. We also have a vast amount of resources and relationships in the industry to get the job done. We are providing a service that hard to find that people need .
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My (patients), resiliency, and faith. Without those, it wouldn’t work, the farm business is hard work, between the weather and shortfall but being a farmer is hard, being a first-time limited resource young black farmer and Agriculture consultant is truly a struggle.
