Meet Jessica Alegria

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Alegria.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’d like to think that the beginning of my fascination with photography started when I’d visit my relatives in Mexico. I vividly remember walking into my aunt’s room and finding images of our families plastered on her wall. I was secretly embarrassed of my pictures as well confused why she had them without frames or in any specific order. I was so focused on the lack of organization, that I completely missed the point. It wasn’t until years later that I realized that her wall was essentially the history of our families and it was her way of connecting with us. From that day forward, I started to understand the impact our images have in our world and I wanted to learn how to give people that same connection with their loved ones, through my lens.

Please tell us about your art.
What do you do /make /create?
I am a portrait photographer. I create photographs of people’s important milestones from maternity, newborn lifestyle, children, teens, graduations, headshots, engagements, and elopements.

How? Why?
Well, I love connecting with people. I always like to meet with the person to get a better understanding of who they are, so I am better able to tell their story with the moments I capture. These photographs, to me, have to be essential to my client because they will be around much longer than any of us.

What’s the message or inspiration, what do you hope people take away from it?
I want people to feel heard, valued and beautiful when they have their sessions with me. We all have something amazing about us and I just want to be the person to show it.

What should we know about your artwork? It is very personal to me, I am constantly learning different techniques to showcase your story. Majority of my work is sunny, warm and happy but I am always open to help people create unconventional portraits that reflect their personal interest.

Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
Yes, have a monthly budget and save more than you spend. Most importantly get rid of all debt. This will give you the freedom to make choices without compromising yourself.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Everyone is welcome to visit my photography website, Facebook or Instagram. Contact me through any format to ask about how I can create beautiful images for you!
