Meet Jessica Gonzalez of J. Renee Design Shoppe in Cypress

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Gonzalez.

Jessica, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I think I have always been pretty creative. As a kid, I loved watching my grandmother sew and I loved watching people create new things from what seemed like nothing. As a teenager, school projects were always my favorite, they allowed me to be as creative as possible. Once I got into my early twenties, I started making invitations and birthday banners for my family. I used to cut everything out by hand! It would be so time-consuming, but I loved it. I always had people telling me that I should start selling my items and I was always getting recommended to help set up birthday parties.

Five years ago, my dad passed away and I think that really gave me the push to do something more than what I was doing. He was so good at so many things, but he could never commit to it. He was a great cook, a great handyman, and could build you anything you needed. I didn’t want to waste the talent that I knew I had because of him.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. The struggle for me was really trying to figure it out all on my own. I knew this is what I wanted to do, but I don’t think I followed the right steps to get it going. I kind of started it on a whim, but I am happy that I did. It’s motivated me to get back into school because I have found something that I absolutely love doing and want to learn as much as possible.

Please tell us about J. Renee Design Shoppe.
Right now, I primarily do custom shirts and decor for various events. I do a lot of shirts for youth baseball and softball teams as well as adults. Events and party set up and decorations that include invitations, centerpieces, backdrops, banners and any other graphics they might need. I am most proud of the effort and the work that I put into this. I am a mother to a four years old, a full-time student and business owner. I mean what is there not to be proud of.
