My lash journey started with my disappointment–in not only the service but also the quality of my lashes when I visited other lash studios. That disappointment definitely sparked a “D.I.Y” interest in me like no other! I started installing my own cluster lashes in a less harsh, more natural appearance which is my preference. That was when the compliments started to flow, and the infamous question of “Who does your lashes?” came about. I would soon be telling everyone that I was the creator, and then was once asked: “How much do you charge?” A light bulb went off in my head, and instantly formed a way to make extra money on the side. At that moment in my life, I was a single mother living check to check and could appreciate anything extra.
At the beginning of my lashing career, I started off with mobile services for cluster lashes only, due to the fact I did not have a space of my own to tend to my future clients. While doing my sister’s lashes one day, she asked if I would ever consider expanding my eyelash talent to learning to install eyelash extensions. Sad to say, I was not 100% sure what they were or what all was involved. I went home that night and researched the extension procedure, and instantly declined. I wondered who is going to sit 2 – 2 1/2 hours doing lashes? I was used to a 20-30 minute installation. The timing of it all seemed unrealistic! As I prayed and meditated on it a few weeks, I researched it a little further. One thing I knew for sure, the pictures and images I saw of eyelash extensions were super captivating and very beautiful! I knew for a fact with my own obsession with lashes, I could make any canvas a beautiful art piece.
I proceeded to research training classes and certification to be able to provide the extension service. I registered for a class, completed the training and received my starter kit! I was certified! Now, the mission was to get in my practice time and perfect my craft. I practiced on family and friends. Before I knew it, I fell in love with doing the extensions. Installing eyelash extensions became so much more to me than making extra money. I saw how women reacted to the finished look; and how something as simple as adding lashes to your appearance can boost your morale, your confidence, and overall happiness. Women love to feel and look beautiful, and it fulfills me to be able to assist with that.
I once told my mom and sister, “If I could at least get a consistent three clients a day, I can afford the cost of living for me and my son. I will be happy with that.” I started with three clients every other week doing only cluster lashes. I now have over 200 loyal customers, doing 6 – 7 clients A DAY! I mainly install eyelash extensions, with the options of cluster lashes and strip lashes.
After this journey of becoming my own boss and making people smile from day to day, I appreciate my trials and tribulations to get here. With a strong mind and support system, I believe anything is possible. To reach any level of success, it takes a lot of work and you have to put in the time. I would definitely encourage others to do the same.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road was definitely not always smooth. I doubted myself harshly in the beginning. Struggles definitely hit me when I was only booking three clients a week, when I was taking four hours to complete a set, when customers were very vocal about being unhappy with their finished products, and even when the retention of the extensions were as little as 1-3 days! It took months and months of patience, researching and trying multiple Eyelash Extension Suppliers/Brands, and free sets, to get to the confidence level and retention rate I am at today.

My family is a HUGE part of my growth and success. My dad gave his blood and sweat to build my own personal studio; my sister and mom who helped with monetary donations, furnishings for my studio and assistance in structuring my company; and my cousin, Jonah Foster, who is a social media connoisseur and the first who promoted me to the fullest. She brought me plenty of customers who still come to me to this day! Without their donations, support, and encouragement to keep pushing forward, I know for a fact I would not be as successful as I am today.
