Meet Johnathan Lindsley of JAL Techsolutions in Missouri City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnathan Lindsley.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Johnathan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been doing IT for over 10 years professionally. Since a young age I have always been tinkering with my friends’ computers until I was finally able to afford one of my own. I grew up very poor and from an abusive home, I knew what I had to do to avoid the same fate. I spent 6 years in the United States Air Force flying on the E-3 AWACS and I did two tours in Afghanistan. During that time I started my IT training and kept learning to further my education. I worked various IT jobs until I became a System Administrator for a company called ARC Specialties in Houston. I worked for the owner Dan for just over a year until I got a better opportunity to work IT for NASA. I was the only IT person at ARC and I was terrified that Dan would be upset. Instead, after I put in my notice. Dan walked into my office telling me that he thinks I have what it takes to run a company. He started up his company into the massive success that it is now from his garage. He told me that he will pay for my time with his CPA and to help me get an LLC started. Dan is now my mentor and friend, he is also my customer where I still maintain his network and provide his company with cyber security protection. My company has grown by word of mouth only, I let it grow organically so I can make it successful. I am a young entrepreneur, new father, student, and a husband. I work hard for my family and I work hard for my success.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There has been many obstacles. I don’t think anyone who owns a business has ever had a smooth road. When I started my company I had no idea what to do, I luckily had a mentor who was able to give me advice along the way. I learned to keep your overhead low as possible. Things that have helped was to be simply honest with my customers and tell them my limitations without over selling. To be fare this may not always work in my favor but I run an honest business. I do IT consulting and management, not magic, though I have been told there is no difference between IT and magic!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with JAL Techsolutions – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Well, the most proud thing as a company is that I get all of my customers by recommendation. This lets me know that I am doing something right! I specialize in IT infrastructure management as well as cyber security protection and training. I cyber security training for small business because a company is only as strong as their employees and this is especially true when it comes to IT. I help small business that may already have an IT department with streamlining and consulting what they already have in place. I do not require contracts with my services and if a company does not like me I will simply give the company all the information on the network I have for them a go, this has yet to happen but this is my plan. Too many small businesses get burned by would be IT guys that take the company for a spin and a lot of money. I want to give IT a good name and work hard for my customers. The most important factor with IT is that the company must have trust in me. They are literally giving me the keys to their electronic castle, I always treat it as such and I always do my best.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the future I hope to teach more cyber security classes to companies. The threat grows each day for risks of cyber-attacks on business networks. I want to educate the companies as well as monitor their infrastructure for future risks. Hopefully I will be able to have a team that I can dispatch at any time all over Houston!
