Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Louis.
Hi Jordan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I wanted permanent jewelry, but I was going to have to travel to get it done. Inevitably, I did not end up doing it because it would have cost me more money to travel to a place where I could get it than I would have spent on the actual jewelry. I saw the need and potential for permanent jewelry and wanted to make it accessible both for myself and my network of friends that I knew would love it as well. I saw beyond the opportunity of just doing it myself here in Denver, but that is where and why I started.
I spent every last dime pouring into this idea of what LINK x LOU could be… so much so I had $82 left to my name, I was living in a house with three roommates to afford living in Denver, and I didn’t know the first thing about scaling a business. It cost me money, time, and control. I knew I didn’t know it all, so the quicker I could find quality people who knew aspects of scaling the business and bringing them on board, the better.
In the eyes of many, the way I started the business may not have been the most responsible or “safe” thing to do, considering most people had no idea what permanent jewelry was at the time. Still, there was something inside of me that KNEW I had to take a chance on this business. I felt incredibly re-charged as we were coming out of the stay-at-home order. It was the time off I needed to allow my creativity to flow and I had such a strong desire to create and connect again. LINK x LOU was the perfect opportunity to do so.
My slight background in self-taught photography and content creation and my love for minimalism and deep meaning allowed me to bring my imagination to life. I had Instagram at my fingertips and just enough money from a stimulus check (plus what was in my bank account) to invest in a welder and some gold. Above all, the combination of my gut feeling and the confidence that my vision would come true was too clear to ignore. From there, LINK x LOU was born.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Before creating LINK x LOU, I began to push myself out of my comfort zone and looked inward. This internal challenge enabled me to follow my heart and pursue this persistent, promising vision. I have experienced so much personal growth in the last several years because I started to take chances on myself.
To me, starting was the hardest part. I think if I weren’t as open-minded as I was or hadn’t been working on gaining confidence in myself at that time, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
While I wasn’t the first to introduce the concept of permanent jewelry, I saw the opportunity to make it a unique and memorable pop-up experience; an accessible and travel-based service offered to individuals willing to host private parties, which lead to partnering with local businesses throughout the community. Amidst the pandemic, I found the need for human connection more necessary than ever before.
Adding a layer of sentiment to permanent jewelry, I foresaw a deeper meaning. From permanent friendship bracelets, a milestone reminder, a connection to someone who is far away, or simply a high-quality piece a person worked hard to earn and treat themselves with, this is more than just buying jewelry. I love the personal connection and story behind each customer’s unique reason for getting Linked.
