Meet Joseph Santini

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Santini.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My father migrated with his parents from Italy, where I have visited family there often. As the baby of five raised in Brookfield, WI, we were your typical fun, loud and loving Italian family. New comers were always welcomed, but informed before entering my home, “if my family and I are yelling, we’re having a friendly conversation, so don’t worry.” My father was transferred to Texas, where we currently reside. My mother led me to attended the University of Houston where I received a B.A. of Fine Arts. Instead of pursuing my career as an artist, my love of children leads me to become an educator for nine years, five of which, were spent teaching fine art. Life it seems has a funny way to push you in directions you didn’t know were options. After putting off pursuing the life of an artist, I decided to stay home and raise my two beautiful daughters during the day and finally pursue my ambition of art at night. I wouldn’t change this arrangement for the world! I hope to provide half the childhood memories and structure to my daughters that my parents molded me with. One of the most honorable opportunities laid before me is serving my family. None of this would be possible if not for my faith, love and support from my wife.

Please tell us about your art.
Though I am a fan of all types of art and mediums, one of my biggest influences is the Italian Renaissance. The use of acrylic paint comes as a shock to many that view my fine art because they assume I used oils. Thanks to years of training and the constant development of my style of painting, I believe this sets me apart from others. At this point in my career, I specialize in landscapes, house and family portraits. Hearing flowing water or feeling the warmth of a sunset reminds us that beauty and peace are everywhere if we open our eyes. When I have the opportunity to produce a family portrait, it’s not just a painting. This is something that will be cherished in someone’s home and passed down for generations to come. I imagine I’m painting a piece of my family in theirs, which makes it more delicate and personal. Painting a portrait of a person’s home is something they get to proudly hang and take a trip down memory lane. That moment when I see the genuine love in my client’s eyes at first sight of their fine art is a sight not many get to see. Each works of art I produce is a stepping stone to always push myself to learn and perform at the highest levels. The philosophy behind my fine art is to provide an open easel for people to capture memories and create new ones.

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Do not be afraid to ask for critiques. Constructive criticism is a gift that can challenge you to become a better artist. Explore new mediums because you never know what could happen if you don’t. If becoming an artist is your passion, then think long term, sacrifice and put in the late nights and you too will be successful. Every piece you create is a building block to becoming more and more successful in developing as an artist. I wish I would have started working on my fine art while teaching because it is a gift I do not intend on wasting! I learned how to properly use a fan brush way too late in life… lol!

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Currently my work can be viewed in several ways. You can like, comment and share my Facebook page by searching Santini’s Paintings Drawings & More or https://www.facebook.com/myartist.santini/. One may find my Instagram account by searching myartistsantini. There are local juried shows I have or will be a part of, such as the juried shows from Conroe, The Woodlands and Galveston. My work is currently exhibited at Conroe Central Market Fine Art Gallery. My goal is to build a big enough body of work to enter into the Woodlands Waterway Art Festival, along with other local shows, as well as continue producing commission pieces. I am one of several artists comprising the 4th Annual “2 Girls, a Guy and a Trailer, and More” art show at the Glade Gallery Nov.29-Dec.1 2018. Even though my current name is Santini’s Paintings Drawings & More, I am going to be changing it to J. Santini Fine Art.
