Meet Josh Miles of Peak Funnel Consulting in Pearland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Miles.

Josh, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2012 I started having this intense desire to get out of my corporate job and do something that I really enjoyed and could use my creativity doing. At the time, I was working in vendor relationship management for Wells Fargo and loved the relational side of my job and was great in my role, but the work didn’t excite me.

Around that time, I also sat in an informational that HR hosted, reviewing how a 401k worked. I was 27 at the time and in that meeting, it hit me that I would have to live another lifetime plus a few years before I could leave and retire. I wasn’t excited about that at all so I started thinking through tons of business ideas that would help me generate passive income streams. I did that for over two years and in 2014 launched, started working on my first business, J Walkyn.

J Walkyn was an e-commerce platform that connected buyers and sellers of Air Jordans. As the site was getting built, I started attending Snearkcon, a world-renown sneaker show that travels to multiple cities each year. As I began traveling with them as a vendor, I realized that the marketing strategies I was implementing in my business and that were helping me generate massive amounts of leads in short amounts of time, were foreign to almost every other entrepreneur there. So I made a shift and started positioning myself as a marketing agency that could partner with these other vendors and help them scale their companies.

That was my first introduction to how much I enjoyed helping other entrepreneurs succeed by growing and scaling their businesses with great marketing strategies. I realized that most business owners are really good at what they do and passionate about their product or service offering, but don’t put a lot of time or energy into the strategy of how they will actually get the attention of their target audience and get them to become loyal customers.

Fast forward to today, I own a digital marketing and consulting agency, Peak Funnel Consulting. We help entrepreneurs and small business owners implement marketing strategies that position their products and/or services as irresistible offers with the right message, aimed at the right audience.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t think any entrepreneur has a “smooth road” (lol)… If they are doing it right and taking a real risk. For me, the struggle was discovering how my passion for entrepreneurship aligned with my skill set and passion for serving others. I had to learn that I was passionate about serving other entrepreneurs. They are actually my target audience.

One of the other challenges was learning that everybody wasn’t ready to take this journey with me. I started my first agency in 2016 and got into a business partnership that was really toxic and a bad fit when it came to integrity and what we valued. Business partnerships are like a marriage and when you don’t share the same values, moving forward and enjoying the process becomes nearly impossible. In 2017 it took the wind out of my sails (pun intended) and I got out of the business and shifted to full-time real estate investing.

I learned a ton as a real estate investor and brought all of my creative marketing strategies to that space but took a ton of losses there due to being overly ambitious and not having the right systems in place to succeed.

So after going broke at the end of 2018 and hitting a financial crisis for the first time in my life, I shifted back to the digital marketing space full time and haven’t looked back since.

It’s been amazing to see how fast things can change when you know how to market and scale a company with really simple strategies that often get overlooked. As a wise man once said, “You’ll never meet a broke marketer.”

Please tell us about the business.
I specialize in building highly automated sales funnels for companies. I am able to look at a business from a high level, identify the gaps, and fill them with streamlined systems and processes in order for them to scale and grow.

Often times, entrepreneurs see marketing as running Facebook ads, but it’s so much more than that. You need to know who your target audience is and have the right sales message for them. You must have an automated sales process that allows you to offer your prospects extremely high levels of value that blow your competitors out of the water. You must have the correct system and process in place that over-delivers on what your clients/customers purchase from you. Having an automated follow-up process to convert leads into clients and customers is key as well. These are all the things that I specialize in because it’s all a part of marketing and growing a company the right way.

I’m most proud of finding what I’m good at and passionate about so that I can serve my tribe in the ways that God has created me to serve. My BIG, long term goal is to help 1,000 entrepreneurs become million-dollar companies.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I’m thankful to God for giving me the drive and work ethic to take this journey of serving people who make the world spin. My wife and four kids have been on this roller coaster with me and are trusting me to create generational wealth for us. I’ve also got a small circle of friends and other entrepreneurs that support me to no end as well.
