Today we’d like to introduce you to Joy Kendrick.
Always Hungry, founded by Joy Kendrick came as a result of being a foodie, eating disorder survivor and model. As a professional model with a taste for the finer things that were plant-based her blog, The Food of Joy, was born. The blog features Joy cooking a vegan or vegetarian meal on a daily basis, and her YouTube shows her fabulously dressed while eating at a vegan or vegetarian restaurant. While at a fashion event, Joy had a public wake up call that caused her to take her health and life more seriously. After overcoming both bulimia and anorexia alone she decided to speak on her story by creating her apron collection, Always Hungry Aprons; the aprons are crafted to encourage self-esteem and promote body positivity. Each apron has a positive phrase for different body types and the word “hungry”, for example “juicy & hungry” for those who have more to love than others.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Dealing with her anorexia and bulimia alone was the scariest part for Joy. She had been dealing with her eating disorder privately for almost twenty years so her public wake up call forced her to make a change.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Always Hungry – what should we know?
The business, Always Hungry, allows Joy the benefit of being creative, to give back and to have fun all at the same time. The aprons is her favorite of all since she has the opportunity to help someone who has/is going through what she survived. What sets Joy apart from others is she loves to support local & black-owned brands from what she wears including her choice of restaurants.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Consistency and faith, you don’t have to have everything all together to be successful, just be consistent and believe you can accomplish your goal.
