Meet Joye Jackson of Speaking of Joye, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joye Jackson.

Hi Joye, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have been a professional speaker, coach and trainer for over 18 years. During my career, however, I have always worked for companies rather than for myself. In May 2020, I lost my job as Chief Strategy Officer for a local credit union due to a reduction in force. After working there for six years, I found myself at a crossroads. For the first time in my adult life, I was unemployed. I had some serious decisions to make. Do I do what I know I was created and prepared to do, or do I stay comfortable and find another job that would let me exercise my gifts, but at minimal capacity? This is how Speaking of Joye was birthed. I have traveled the world speaking, obtained a Master of Education in Adult Education & Training, become a licensed minister and Certified Christian Counselor, but there was still something missing. So rather than create strategies and programs for companies or organizations, I decided to invest in women who are a part of these companies and organizations. I wanted to focus on women like myself. Women who have great purpose and potential, but need that extra push to walk into their next season. So here we are… encouraging women to take a chance on themselves!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a new business is never a smooth road! As a matter of fact, it is the scariest thing I have ever done in my professional career. Prior to now, I was always the person who said, “I am not an entrepreneur” or “I don’t have the entrepreneurial spirit.” After all, I am a communicator by trade, not a business person! I have typically shied away from any events, risks or circumstances that would take me out of my comfort zone. I enjoy doing what I do best, and have been fortunate enough to succeed in those areas. Starting this new business has stretched me beyond anything I could imagine! One of my biggest struggles has been self-confidence as a business woman. I have always been the product, with an organization or company as my banner. Having to put myself out there as just “Joye” is scary. What if people don’t believe in me? What if they say no? What if they think I am not good enough? These are all questions that I have to silence nearly every day. But it has taught me the essence of vulnerability and the true meaning of success. It is not defined by your business, but rather how you walk out your challenges and struggles while building your business.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Speaking of Joye, LLC?
I work with women, from all backgrounds, who are ready to step into their greater purpose. We work 1:1 to overcome all of the things that are holding them back from reaching their goals – fear, questions, lack of time, lack of support and more. Together we chart a pathway to what’s next for them. It’s the support that we all need, but don’t always have. My mission is to help one million women fulfill their purpose through my coaching, workshops and speaking. For many of us, we have the goals and ideas, but moving to action can be paralyzing. Together, through strategy sessions, we create customized action plans that help you incrementally achieve the goals you have set for yourself.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I am a native Houstonian. The only time that I left this wonderful city was to attend college at Tennessee State University. I absolutely love Houston! Although we are the fourth largest city, it doesn’t feel that big to me. We have vast opportunities for anyone who comes here, and our diversity is unmatched. You can make a good life here without all the hustle and bustle of the big city. It’s a great place to start and raise a family. I dislike what every other Houstonian dislike… the humidity! LOL!
