Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Milin.
Julia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story is very unique. I started off as an opera singer, so I am artistically inclined from a very young age. I have traveled the world singing in many different countries. I have always been involved in beauty and health, since my mother brought me up on natural remedies for every from beauty to health.
I was on a recent trip from New Zealand, after singing a concert tour, and saw my mother practicing microblading. Here is the story: After performing at a concert in New Zealand, she decided to travel back home to New York City to visit her family. One evening, while sitting at the kitchen table with her mother, Julia Anne noticed that her mother had been practicing with these tiny blades drawing eyebrows on a piece of latex (“skin”). Naturally a little disturbed, she asked her mother what she was doing. Her mother then began to explain that she had been taking these new “microblading” classes, which she had heard of from a friend. It turns out she had signed up for the classes on a whim, and wanted to check it out. Her mother was always into beauty, and keeping herself abreast of new products or procedures had always been a hobby.
She then went on to show Julia Anne her microblading kit, along with some of the practice stencils that she mentioned she had been having some difficulty with shaping. Julia Anne watched for a few minutes as her mother made yet another attempt to perfect her homework assignment. Eager to help, she gripped her mother’s hand in the midst of her drawing, took hold of the pencil, and with an instinctive confidence and said, “let me try…I got this”.
Little did Julia Anne know that just two years later, she would become one of the nation’s most widely respected microblading artists. Known for her cutting-edge artistry and one-of-a-kind techniques, Julia Anne Milin continues to set the bar within the microblading realm of the beauty industry. Her distinctive precision and innovational procedures are notably praised throughout the tri-state area, where she is labeled as the pioneer of microblading.
Being the first microblading clinical offices to open within the Manhattan (and overall tristate area), Brow Design International is recognized as the sole entity responsible for putting this new state-of-the-art procedure on the map. Since the birth of Brow Design International, and later Brow Design Microblading Academy, Julia Anne continues to shape the future of microblading techniques as she consistently reinvents her craft, while simultaneously magnifying the industry standards.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth ride. As soon as I started Microblading, I was an instant success. I had so many requests for training and for services, I could not keep up. I opened up 2 locations, one in The Woodlands, and one on 5th avenue in New York City.
Sourcing safe and reputable products has been a long road, since most products come from overseas where quality control is difficult. I spent countless hours testing and sourcing products that would be safe for my students and my clients. I have traveled all over the world for my training, and for collaborations with product manufacturers. All of the meeting, travel, and learning is very tiring. But I am passionate about my company and the services we offer.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck has played a huge role in the success of my business. I learned microblading at the right time, before anyone else in the USA – and started my successful business. I managed to meet the right people at the right time, and made the right connections at the right time.
For instance, there was a company in Germany that I wanted to work with. When I first contacted them, they did not respond. So I flew to Europe to meet with them at a beauty conference. As luck would have it, they were just planning their launch into the US market – and I got chosen at the first US distributor for their product. We are excited to be launching this new service and concept to the USA starting in 2018
