Today we’d like to introduce you to June Le.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I am blessed to have a two amazing photographers in my family that I greatly respect and whom motivate me. Like most, my first memory of photography is being a young child and trying to sit still for my mom to take a picture. She wouldn’t pick up a camera again for about twenty years, but she has become an amazing and respected landscape and wildlife photographer in her own right. On my father’s side, my uncle’s street photography provides a fresh perspective and his portraits of my growing cousins are incredibly awww inspiring.
Another source of inspiration for me was my good friend Jonny Ngo (of Jonny Ngo Photography in Dallas). We collaborated together on countless shoots and eventually, my curiosity brought behind the camera. Initially, my interest in photography was a challenge to myself: can I actually do this and do it well? Over time, it has developed into a hobby and a passion for me and I’m excited to see where it will take me.
Please tell us about your art.
There’s a little bit of self-discovery in every artist’s work and it’s no different in photography. A couple years ago, I went with my husband to Paris and it was such a magical place. It’s alive with the hustle and bustle of a modern city but surrounded by history, romanticism and old world architecture. This trip helped me evolve as a person and photographer. I’m very drawn to and inspired by images with a feminine and romantic vibe, which is actually very different from who I am in my every day life. Sometimes I try to balance femininity with a modern look but I also enjoy diving in deep and creating ultra romantic and vintage inspired images. I love to style shoots to practice different techniques with styling and posing so I can incorporate this into my wedding work.
What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
As with almost anything, do it for the love of the art, not for the money. Also, don’t be afraid to ask questions and ask for help. There are so many people that have helped me on this journey and I’m forever grateful to them. With the explosion of social media and Instagram, there’s unprecedented access to artists that I admire (and they have even answered my DMs, but don’t get your feelings hurt if they don’t).
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
