Meet Justin Cleveland of Unity Professional Movers in Westchase

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Cleveland.

Justin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Me and my partner Dominique Dorsey started Unity Professional Movers to bring a new perspective and presence to HOUSTON. We love our city and we truly wanted to start a company that we could truly express that with our services. The both of us grew up on the southwest side of Houston and we both had our share of childhood mistakes! But those mistakes have matured us to the men we are today, two men with a shared dream that every day we work hard to turn into a reality. We both have had our handful of jobs over the years. We both found ourselves working for a moving company and a strong bond was created. We both had the same passion to really help people and be successful relocating others belongings. Being a professional mover is not easy, you have about 10 minutes to enter someone’s home and earn their trust. The company we worked for wasn’t bad but the management was horrible and after working there for a year we knew it was time for something different. But, we were both tired of bouncing around from job to job. So, one day we were moving a 3rd time client that always requested me and Dominique. The move was another successful move, but at the end the client said he wanted to talk for a few. He pointed out that he felt like the two of us should start our own moving company! He actually challenged us to do it!! At first we was very hesitant but that week alone three different people told us the same thing. So we sat down and came up with Unity Professional Movers!! We wanted to unite our clients with great services for low rates. We wanted to show that you can trust your movers. Now fast-forwarding eight months and Unity Professional Movers has done over 200 moves and deliveries! Our passion to bring great and quality customer services is the foundation of our company! We want our clients to know that we work for them and that our trucks don’t drive off until you’re please with our work. Now our staff plays a huge role in why we started as well. Being a Professional Movers can put a lot of toll on your body but there are guys that’s been doing it for years and don’t get the recognition they deserve. So we really wanted to start this company with hopes of growing to offer better jobs and pay to other professional movers. So our staff is made of highly experienced movers who love what they do and love leaving there clients happy with their services. So eight months later after accepting a client’s challenge Unity Professional Movers is growing daily to become a household name!!

Has it been a smooth road?
If there is a business you can start that’s smooth with no challenges, please tell me. (Haha) But, Unity Professional Movers was started due to a challenge issued to us by a client/friend. So we knew that there was going to be many obstacles and challenges in starting this company. Our mind frame was to be ready and humble to all challenge that came our way. Every day and every move is a learning experience. But, we have had our fair share of problems but none that we couldn’t handle. We rent our trucks from Budget through a business corporate account. But, before we had an account we did it regular and it would be days that we could not get our reserved trucks. But, we would quickly jump into action and find one. We thank God that we never had to cancel a job at all especially for not having a truck. Over the months we formed a pretty good relationship with all Budget truck dealers over Houston. Even though we rent trucks we still have some of the lowest rates in Houston compared to companies who own several trucks. We also have had our share fare of scammers preying on new small businesses. You would be amazed at how people prey on new business owners. But, at the end of the road, its lesson learn and keep the faith!!

We at Unity Professional Movers offer full moving services commercial and residential. We offer all type of moving services, and delivery services. We offer anywhere from 2-8 mover packages. We do furniture assembly and disassemble and deliveries. We specialize in moving very large safes and pianos and pool tables. We also provide packing services and home staging help. And unlike other companies we only apply hour minimums on moving prices. Also to show our clients we are here to please them we drop our hourly rates after the minimum. For example: 2 Movers are $75/hr. for the first two hours with a two hour minimum. Then after the first two hours the hourly rate drops to $65/hr. Now the minimum means that even if the crew works for 30 minutes we still charge for two hours. But are Movers come well experience and trained, we aim to finish moves within the minimum but if not then we drop the rate to show that we’re not like other companies that come and drag the clock out to get more money from you. What makes me most proud is the fact that we have been able to deliver “great services and low rates” to the city of Houston.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel like Houston is the best city for a moving company because this city is on a rapid growth! A lot of people who start businesses always look at the competition for their line of work. But, the industry of logistics is so huge and especially moving companies but it’s so easy to draw yourself apart. Instead of just focusing on profit we focus on clientele. What I mean is where not here to get rich off every move with our rates that’s impossible (haha) but we just aim to grow from word of mouth and that’s threw being successful at moving out clients. Houston and the surrounding areas our growing at a fast pace so we aim to keep up with that pace and also help that growth be relocating people at an affordable price!!

Pricing:

  • 2 movers $75/ (2hr minimum) $65/hr after the minimum $50 trip fee
  • 3 Movers $95/hr (3hr minimum) $85/hr after the minimum $50 trip fee
  • 4 Movers $115/hr (3hr minimum) $105/hr after the minimum $50 trip fee
  • 2 packers or Movers (no truck needed) $50/hr $20 trip fee (3-4 packers or Movers is additional $10 a mover/packer)
  • $150 flats rate on furniture deliveries no more than 3 items (safes ,pianos,pool tables)
