Meet K. Fields of Noir Legacy Ventures

Today we’d like to introduce you to K. Fields.

Hi K., so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
If you’re thinking, who is K. Fields? Allow me to introduce myself. I was born on the southside of Houston, Texas. At grandma’s house tinkering on the piano was where you could usually find me with my family, all sharing in my early years of development. I attended middle and high school in Missouri City, Texas. There I focused on athletics, but I was always intrigued by the music industry.

My entrepreneurial instincts blossomed early by way of cutting hair in the neighborhood in my spare time. Immediately after graduating from Willowridge High School, I enlisted in the US Army. During my military career, I became a husband, father, and mastered the skills of leadership and critical thinking as a quartermaster.

Upon completing my military service, I returned back home to Houston, TX where I continued my education graduating as a paralegal and audio engineering. While working for several years as a professional legal advocate for various local organizations, I was inspired by books like PowerNomics by Dr. Claud Anderson, and Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. Soon after I began to feed my own entrepreneurial desire of financial independence and owning a successful business. Through much reading, trial, and error I obtained that success in multiple business ventures.

In 2017 after assisting some friends and family members with starting their own businesses, I discovered my passion for helping others develop their own ideas into profitable businesses. Armed with my experience as an entrepreneur, and background as a legal advocate I opened the doors to my own small business consulting firm Noir Legacy Group in 2018. I find it rewarding to aid others in my community who seek to enjoy the benefits and freedoms afforded by business ownership. Particularly, being a black business owner gives me an advantage in my ability to provide relevant, sound business advice unique to the entrepreneurial obstacles often faced within my community.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would be lying if I said being a business owner is easy. And being a black business owner takes true grit. From the aspiring entrepreneurs to the well established business mogul, there are always obstacles and challenges that one will most certainly face.  However, I thrive on helping my clients to navigate paths around these obstacles, allowing them to face the challenges with assurance in their researched strategies and ability to overcome and prosper.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Anyone who is serious about starting and growing their very own business, and seeks financial independence must start with a good business plan. If you don’t have one you have already failed. It may sound simplistic, but I have seen many overlook this basic part of the process, then pay a heavy price for it later. A good business plan is like laying a solid foundational brick when building any successful business. Make a plan, then get to it. You can do this!
