Today we’d like to introduce you to Kanisha Williams.
Hi Kanisha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Born and raised in Port Arthur, Texas I’ve always known I wanted to become a successful business owner and become a positive role model for the upcoming youth. After high school, I had a few jobs but I wanted more and I knew I had to do more, so I decided to further my education and enroll back in college at the University of Phoenix and took upon the studies of criminal justice.
Within two years I earned my associate’s degree and then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree. Now, I am working on my master’s with a projected graduation date set to be in September 2022. Although being a single mother has its own challenges, I know that it’s worth it. I’m now a business owner of multiple businesses.
A few to name are Kay Collection XXII, Certified Trucking & Dispatching LLC, and Ju’s Party Rentals. As I continue to work hard for my family in hopes that more business opportunities arise. I will take them and consider them as blessings. Every story has an ending but mines are unfinished because I am in control of my own destiny.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
In life, we experience many challenges in many different forms that leave us at a crossroads. It may cause us to slow down or even come to a stop. However, in life, you can always find a way to succeed.
No matter how many times life knocks us down to our lowest, we are strong enough to stand back up and push through. When one door is closed, you create your own door, and eventually, you have created multiple paths that you didn’t realize at your own disposal.
Nobody left instructions on how to succeed in life, with hard work and determination you can turn your dreams into reality.
As you know, we’re big fans of Certified Trucking & Dispatching LLC, and Kay Collection XXII, Ju’s Party Rentals. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I currently manage my very own trucking company as an owner-operator. In addition to my front-line business, I also sell hair and rent out party favors, that contribute to my ongoing continuing education. I would consider myself a jack of all trades and a master of entrepreneurship. My small town might refer to me as the girl who “ doesn’t wait for things to happen, but makes them happen.”
As an owner-operator, I hold a commercial driver’s license while providing professional deliveries in a timely manner. Covid sparked my interest in Trucking! After obtaining my bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice in 2019; I learned that nearly 80 % of domestic freight in the US is moved by trucks! This means it’s highly likely that regardless of where it is in the supply chain; it’ll touch a truck and driver, me!
There are many women like me, but we are few numbers. We are set apart from others because I (we) don’t pray for a harvest, we contribute to it. My brand is my harvest and all that I’ve sacrificed to build it. Even now as I sit on the Dean list in an effort to obtain my Masters, my sincere focus is to show women and moms that all things are capable with the right mindset!
I am currently hiring drivers and dispatchers with at least 6 months of experience. I know, some of you are wondering “but I don’t have the experience” keep your fingers crossed I have something coming for you real soon!
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In 5-10 years I predict that my company will have spun off at least six successful subsidiary startups, which will all be run by someone other than myself. With the startups of my subsidiaries, I expect to expand my business nationally. By reaching my target audience in more states and having staff nationally, I eventually would like to expand my company globally, which then will reach the goal I set for myself and my family.
