Today we’d like to introduce you to Karla Salas.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
At the age of 19, I started working a 9-5 office job thinking I had found my lifelong career as an administrative assistant. Fast forward, four years later I Was so unhappy with my career and lifestyle. One day I had mentioned to my husband how I wish I was doing hair and he mentioned why didn’t I go enroll Into beauty school? I thought to myself me? At the age of 23 going back to school? Never. He motivated me to enroll so I did and I’m so glad I did! I graduated cosmetology school and a few months later I jumped into the hair industry. It took me about a year to find the perfect salon where I could call “work home”. I started out assisting one of Houston’s best hairstylist Lucero Vazquez. She put me under her wing and molded me to what I am today. She opened up a hair salon in Northwest Houston “Sleek Society Salon” and thankfully she gave me the opportunity to rent one of her stations and start my career in there.
Has it been a smooth road?
Definitely not! I remember not having money and not being able to help my husband with finances. I would question going back to my 9-5 job, I’m so glad I didn’t because the sacrifice was definitely worth it.

I am a color specialist, I specialize mainly in all blondes, but can deliver all sorts of different hair colors. I also provide hair shaping, hair treatments and hair extension installations.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that Houston is very talented you can find all sorts of talented people and we definitely have good food!
What I like least would be the traffic and weather, but I think we can all agree.
