Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Denton.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Katie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Hiiii guyyyz – super happy to be here. I’m a southern girl and always have been. I was born and raised in a small, close-knit and caring Texas community right outside of Austin, Texas. You can hear my “Y’all” voice from every inch of Texas. My roots have guided me to where I am and have paved the way I view life alongside my fabulous family and friends. I’m a momma to one beautiful, sassy little girl who makes my life better each day. She is a blessing and a reminder of how God creates such beautiful souls. I was able to pick up my camera full time in 2017 to start my new career in the photo industry after becoming a new mommy in 2016.
I have this faint memory as a four-year-old little girl in Pre-K. We were rewarded for good behavior and would get to choose something out of this mysterious treasure box. It was close to the end of the school year and I knew the toys had to be THE BEST. I couldn’t decide between a toy camera or a jungle book candy dispenser. Of course, being the sweet tooth that I am, I chose the candy dispenser. It’s okay, I may not have known it then, but I do know now. What was a tiny message sent, I now clearly see what God had in store for me many years later, and now I get to wake up and know that I’m doing something I authentically love.
Photography is not only my growing business but my art and my passion. What started as a hobby has turned into a full-time adventure for myself. I call myself a Mom Boss. If you are one, say it out loud… and for those in the back too, y’all! I started off college majoring in fashion marketing, then found myself with a camera that was hiding in my closet and took this road FULL FORCE several months after I had my little girl. What a beautiful journey it has been and I can’t wait to see what the rest of my photography future holds.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There’s been a few potholes and bumps in this road ;), but it’s never stopped my love and confidence in what I produce. As a photographer, it’s my goal to help create memories that will be adored for years. The experience each person has with me is what I want everyone to remember and cherish forever when they think of my business! I’ve poured concrete and evened out many of those holes and bumps with the love of my work and will continue to be in that construction zone, when needed, learning along the way. It’s okay to be challenged. It’s normal to make boo boo’s and learn from it all!
Financially, as a stay at home mom, budgeting was vital for me. I wanted this dream to come to life, and I wanted it right away. It snapped REAL QUICK that this journey was not meant for that. This journey was intended to teach me more patience and growth each day for not only my business but myself too. Marketing yourself is tough in one of the largest cities in the world when you don’t know anyone around. My personality, well, let’s say I seem to meet a new friend every time I go to the grocery store. I love people, I do. Being myself helped me grow my clientele and still helps me each day get through obstacles and everyday life. Be you. That’s unique.

Basically, you can bring me all of thaaaa families, couple’s, + kiddos! I currently specialize in Motherhood, Fatherhood, Families, Couples/Engagements, Couples Boudoir, Boudoir, Newborn (lifestyle) and will soon be offering Birth/Fresh 48 sessions!
I have a heart of gold that loves deep. You are not just a client to me. You have a friend in me. I will be there when you need me and will be there to capture YOU and all the REAL-IN LIFE moments that happen. My life is about moments and to be able to photograph moments for others seriously makes my soul thrive. I am proud of the woman I have become because of this remarkable journey. I am secure in ways I haven’t been before. My life is much better with a camera in my hand!
I am not perfect though, so by all means… your session won’t be perfect… but it will be something you can embrace and hold tight to your heart. I love being truthful and honest in my imagery. I am genuine when I say bring out the sappy moments, the giggling until we are about to pee our pants moments, the “get this lady outta my face” moments. ALL THE MOMENTS MATTER IN THIS LIFE. It’s essential for me to show you the unstaged photographs too to help tell your story!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I would have to say out of the 100s I could list… being a cheerleader was something I loved doing as a little girl even into my high school years. I made up cheer dances to EVERY song that came out on the “NOW” music albums and music channels! Annoying the heck out of my family as I cheered down the dollar store aisle, still gets them every time. 😉
