Meet Katrina A. Smith of Positive Business Designs Art Gallery in Katy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katrina A. Smith.

Katrina A, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I originally launched Positive Business Designs in 2009, shortly after the Mortgage Industry crashed. At that time, I promised myself, I would never be in a situation again, where someone could tell me my job had ended. I became very motivated to start my own business. I was not sure about what services I would provide or what my business would be. I had been in the customer service environment for over 30 years and my last job title was Assistance Vice President of Mortgage Loan Servicing.

I started my work experience in Mortgage Loans Collection, in the banking environment, which was very stressful. I later had the opportunity to work in Customer Service Mortgage Loan Servicing and found providing customer service to customers was very rewarding. I love helping customers and providing services. I had a passion for art, I loved creating art, websites and social media profiles. I always try to maintain a positive outlook during daily life challenges, so I knew positive had to be included in my business name and because I loved creating bold art designs, I added designs. I tried offering a few business services, to assist customers, but could never really get everything up and running properly. Finally, due to financial and personal reasons, I had to stopped working and promoting my business.

In 2012, Positive Business Designs Art Gallery was reborn and in 2016, we became a corporation, POS BUS DESIGNS ART INC. A legacy for my Children, Grand Children and Great Grand Children. I Create the artwork, maintain the business and social media websites. The Art World is a very different animal to connect with and make a profit. I love what I am doing, and I have put my heart into it. I know I am going to be successful in this business. Recently, I have become a Designer with Shop VIDA, A major E-Commerce Business model that allows artists worldwide to upload artwork to their platform and be displayed on fashion and home decor. The business goal is to have a retail art gallery in late-2018. Our current business is E-Commerce. We are planning an Art Show event in mid-2018.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Our biggest challenges are marketing and advertising. It has been hard, but everything is finally coming together. Currently, I do all the marketing, advertising and artwork. Since our website and social media websites have been operating for over 2 years our name is out there.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would not take this journey alone, it is very hard to do it all by yourself, but I love what I am doing and it is very rewarding for me to create art. Once we are making a profit, I will hire a marketing and advertising person.
