Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Walker.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
kNicole PR & Event Planning was founded in 2015 during my last year of undergrad. I spent 2012 – early 2015 working with club promoters, DJs. and venue owners on events of all types. I helped curate concerts, fashion shows, and anti-violence rallies, all gathering the attention of diverse crowds. After learning some of the logistics behind what goes into these type events and recognizing my creative niche-I was sold! I soon realized just how much I enjoyed seeing things come together and how much of an eye I have for small details that make a big impact. I knew that this was what I wanted to do long term. I continued to develop my skills under others and eventually branched off to begin kNicole PR-handling all things media and public relations. Taking it a step further, I began partnering with small local businesses on developing their brand, maintaining a good public image, and marketing themselves effectively. With just my word and a lot of ambition, local business owners started trusting me to curate their content and serve as project coordinators for their marketing campaigns and events. Before I knew it, my clients were seeing increases in revenue and opening their second and some third businesses.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing about the journey here has been smooth, but it is certainly proving to be rewarding. I have struggled especially with branching out on my own. I worked under some pretty well-known promoters and djs, so the biggest struggle has just been making a name for myself. Everyone knew me as *insert dj’s name* assistant or “the girl who works for *insert name*, so my biggest struggle has been pushing my brand and my name. I always played a very large role while working with others, but it was mostly behind the scenes work. Because of this, my actual talents and abilities have somewhat gone overlooked for some time. As of recently, that has started to change, but the struggle with making a name for yourself is overcoming defeat-because it certainly doesn’t come easy or overnight!
Please tell us about kNicole PR & Event Planning.
kNicole PR & Event Planning is all things media and public relations. I specialize in content and event curation, but I do not like to be confined to a box in terms of things I am able to do. I provide my clients with everything from project management to brand development to personal assistant services. I help clients develop content which includes graphic design and I provide marketing materials such as retractable banners and business cards.
I am most proud of the growth in my brand within the last few years. With the help of God, I have built my brand from the bottom-literally and continued to flourish! Since founding kNicole PR I have only continued to add to my list of services and products offered. It is my goal to become a one stop shop for client marketing and branding needs.
What sets kNicole PR apart is my passion for what I do! I truly want to help clients build and maintain a brand that they love and can be proud of. My brand is my name-literally, it is my word and in the words of someone famous “all you have is your word.” That being said, I pride myself in being THEE best at every project I am apart of.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Honestly, I do not think that I would do anything different. I am a firm believer in everything happening for a reason-the good, the bad, and the ugly-they’re all just lessons. All of the things I have gone through to be where I am today have made me better, so I don’t think I would do anything differently.
