Meet Kerry Quinn “Staff lead for RivALZ”

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerry Quinn “Staff lead for RivALZ”.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
RivALZ Houston- Blondes vs. Brunettes is a flag football fundraiser driven by passionate, spirited community leaders coming together to support the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Blondes vs. Brunettes® was created in Houston in 2005, a flag football event founded by a group of professional women including Houstonians Kate Stukenberg and Meredith Riddle Chastang. Since the inaugural game in 2005, the event has grown to more than 40 cities, raising more than $9 million and bringing thousands of new supporters to the cause. In 2014, to accommodate nationwide growth, “Blondes vs. Brunettes” grew into “RivALZ” empowering participants to choose the rivalry around which to organize their teams. The Houston Chapter has chosen to keep “Blondes vs. Brunettes”, with redheads as “free agents”, since we have enjoyed the exciting rivalry for the past fifteen years.

On the football field, we may be Blondes and brunettes, but together we are united as one team in the fight against Alzheimer’s. We play for our grandparents, parents and ourselves. We play because, unless we change the course of this disease, it will take a devastative toll on the families of future generations. Game day will come and go, but we will continue to fight Alzheimer’s disease until we win.

As an event created and played by women, RivALZ Houston sends a message of solidarity: we plan to meet this disease with energy and attitude. We are the generation that can provide both the fuel and the spark in this fight. We are Blondes vs.Brunettes and we are a team united to tackle Alzheimer’s disease.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Every organization has growing pains and RivALZ Houston has been no exception. As we have grown into a $350,000 fundraising event we have been incredibly lucky to have amazing volunteers lead the way. The women and men who give their time to RivALZ Houston are the driving force behind our success. Most of these profound leaders have been affected by Alzheimer’s Disease or dementia in their lives, whether through family or friends. Along the way, we remember the goal behind the game: Ending Alzheimer’s.

As we have undergone name changes, endured recessions and as we’re dealing with COVID-19 now, we focus on why we formed Blondes vs. Brunettes 15 years ago. All proceeds fund the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association. The Alzheimer’s Association leads the way to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia — by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.

We’d love to hear more about your organization.
