Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevan and Ayesha Shelton.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kevan and Ayesha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Since the beginning of our relationship, we both had aspirations in real estate investing. Separate as Kevan and Ayesha, we were successful in our own right. However, the force of us together has been beyond what we could have ever imagined. We spent the first two years of our relationship learning and studying real estate and business. We made a plan and executed. There is something to be said about the power of partnership and I think we are a living example of that.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A smooth road? It has definitely not been a smooth road. There have been many bumps in the road along the way. From changing our mindset to managing our finances to grow our investment portfolio. Every day has brought a new challenge to overcome and made us stronger in as a couple, a family and growing business. We believe that every “challenge” is an opportunity for us to improve and grow. In the words of Jim Rohn, “Don’t wish it was easier, wish you were better.”
Please tell us about K&A Companies.
We founded our first company in 2016 and the rest is history. Fast forward to the present day, K&A Companies is a collection of privately owned enterprises centering around real estate. Our businesses consist of Park Street Development, a residential and commercial construction company, K&A Consulting, an education, and training organization, Icon Short-term rentals a hospitality company focused on providing short-term housing for medical center patients and beyond and finally Marriage and Real Estate Podcast.
We are most proud of investing in urban underserved communities. Through our construction company, we are changing the face of some of the most iconic but neglected neighborhoods in South Houston.
What sets us apart is that we feel it is our duty to share the knowledge that we’ve acquired. Through K&A Consulting, we have educated over 300 people on real estate investing and development. We also are passionate about sharing our successes, lessons, and failures in our marriage and real estate journey through our podcast.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Kevan-My favorite memory is my father walking me through all of the big mansions in River Oaks and saying, “This is what you should be building.” This fueled my passion for construction.
Ayesha-My favorite childhood memory is singing in the church that my father is now the pastor of in Galveston, TX.
