Meet Kimberley Kelly of The Vocational Nursing Institute

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberley Kelly.

The Vocational Nursing Institute, Inc. was founded in 2009 by Kimberley A. Kelly RN, BSN, MSN. It is Ms. Kelly’s vision to open a Vocational School to help others in the community to become a Vocational Nurse or a Nursing Assistant. The founder decided to transition the school in 2009 to a non-profit status, which will enhance the opportunities for the students via grants and donations to the school and benefits the students versus a for profit entity. Currently, there are 8 board members for the school.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a bumpy road, but what new business is smooth? There were more hurdles to jump through than anticipated! Board of Nursing approval, Accreditation, TWC, Department of Education, Department of Aging and Disability Services, Veterans Administration, and Workforce Solutions to name a few!

The struggles are real for new nursing programs- some include not having enough qualified experienced affordable staff and not having enough students enrolled in the programs, in the beginning, are the biggest tactical issues to overcome. Maintaining a passing, completion, and placement rate for each entity is not an easy task either! It is a true balancing act at all times.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Vocational Nursing Institute Inc. – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We specialize in providing the nursing assistant, anatomy and physiology pre-requisite course, and vocational nursing program courses. We launched an evening part-time program, the first in the State in September 2017.

This is geared towards our targeted student age of 35-50 years of age who have families and work and need a part-time evening vocational nursing program to fit into their busy lives while enhancing and moving forward their professional growth and goals.

We are proud that we received four deficiency-free surveys in 2017. We had surveys from the following entities with no citations in 2017:
Texas Workforce Commission
Veterans Administration (federal)
Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) for nurse aide program
Texas Board of Nursing 3 year review

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are currently approved to provide the medical administrative assistant course and will be offering that 1st quarter 2018. We are also adding the medication aide program by Spring of 2018.

We have plans to implement an RN bridge program by Fall 2018 which will be part-time on Tues/Thurs.

Pricing:

  • Vocational Nursing Program- $25,500
  • Nurse Aide Program- $995.00
  • Anatomy and Physiology Course- $595.00

Hello Kelly, glad to see you still building upon your dream. Me too!! Let’s talk, I am now in 35 nursing schools and Sam Houston State just did some great research on us to share. We are building a virtual hospital and soon will have ten virtual clinicals. Dose cal, Med-pass, Med-surg, OB, Psych, and this month adding Pediatrics. To come: ER, the Manager, Community Health and Health Assessment. All of which are clinicals online available 24/7 cloud based. Students access anywhere from their cell phones, lap tops or computers at home. We offer a free trial and always willing to come in person or do a live computer based video conference. Students and faculty love us…
    Let’s talk soon.
    Best regards,
    Dan
