Kimberly, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Loving Lacquer Cosmetics started as an idea for a nail polish line in 2012 when I was a sophomore in college. I owned probably over 50 nail polishes and would even polish my fellow freshman hallmates’ nails for money during my first semester in college. This led me to take an interest in the cosmetics industry. I originally began mixing eye shadow pigments and clear coated nail polish to create custom nail polishes. However, these custom creations were not sold due to the dissatisfaction of the results and the idea took a back seat as I focused more on my college studies. In 2015, my senior year in college, the idea resurfaced when I chose to research the beauty industry for my senior capstone paper. During this time, I had also taken a strong interest in lipstick. I believe that the one cosmetic item that every woman should own is lipstick because it has the power to make an outfit pop and enhance your overall look. It’s a mood! In 2019, I decided to finally take the steps to launch the cosmetics line that I always wanted. The mission of my brand is to merge beauty, art, and creativity together to enhance the appearance of our customers.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has not been that smooth. I just launched the business on January 1o,2020 and finding vendors to accomplish my vision within my budget for the lip paints and lip lacquers was not easy. I was really pushing it to make my anticipated launch date. During the product development stage, it seemed as if when I took one step forward, I would be pushed another step back due to vendors requiring a high MOQ (minimum order quantity) which meant more money that would have to be spent. Because the tubes that I wanted were custom, some vendors either didn’t have the tubes or wanted to charge a large amount for only a couple of colors. However, I found a vendor at the beginning of December 2019 and everything ended up out working out!

Loving Lacquer Cosmetics is a cosmetics company that merges art and beauty by connecting the creative community. I believe that makeup is a tool that can be used to create art just like paint, clay, pencils, and other materials that may be used to create the art that you would see in a museum. Makeup is a form of art. On my social media, I make an effort to feature different kinds of artists on my page so that creatives are united. I am an art enthusiast and this company is my way of expressing my appreciation for all forms of art since I was not blessed with the talent of being a professional/gifted artist and this is what sets my brand apart from other beauty companies. Loving Lacquer Cosmetics currently offers lip paints (matte liquid lipstick), lip lacquer (lip gloss), sketching pencils (lip liner), innovation lipstick (creamy matte lipstick with a unique applicator), and sketching pencil sharpeners. As the business grows, more items will be added to the line. The thing that I am most proud of so far is the fact that I actually took the steps to make the business happen after starting and stopping for so many years!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I am originally from Vicksburg, Mississippi which is a rather small town. With that being said, I like how diverse Houston is! There are a variety of cultures, food, and people here. What I like least is the traffic and the way that the people here drive (my car insurance went up once I moved here)!
