Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirk Mendel Phelps aka (Mendel Mccoy)
Kirk, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Growing up, I recollect shopping with my parents and not being able to take home this distressed demi jacket that I wanted badly! I went home that same day and made a similar jacket as the one I saw in-store, which actually turned out better than the one I would’ve purchased. From then on I would revamp pieces of my wardrobe. My journey started from there, being creative at such a young age molded me into the stylish individual I am today. Later on in life, I knew that I wanted to do more! After graduating with my degree in fashion arts I gained experience in retail and continued to looked for different opportunities where I could apply my talent. In 2019, I started working alongside yassy brown, owner of fashion haus and haus of brown where I started as an intern then worked my way up to becoming the creative director for this amazing team of talented potential. This led me to pursue a new passion of becoming a personal and stylist and the rest is history.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth one thing that I struggle with is finding a balance with my personal life and work life, making sure I have days to unwind and relax.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a wardrobe stylist who helps clients create a suitable image by selecting wardrobe and accessories for editorial features, music videos, public appearances and more. I’m also one of the creative directors for fashion haus/ haus of brown. I work with a team of creatives to deliver strategic visions for upcoming occasions such as fashion shows, other social events. I am known for my diverse way of styling men. I love the range from an androgynous image to a modern suit. I’m most proud of everything I’ve accomplished thus far, and pushing myself to actually do something that I love and to not care about other’s opinions. The thing that sets me apart for I’m most is how unpredictable I am with styling. I’m always finding ways to outdo myself.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I’m a foodie, if I wasn’t a stylist, I would definitely consider being a food journalist.
