Today we’d like to introduce you to Kisha Itkin.
Hi Kisha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I moved to Houston almost 16 years ago with the intent of getting a master’s degree and working in the energy industry. While I did further my education and had landed what I thought was my dream job, I had an unexpected opportunity present itself. In early 2012, my husband and I were searching for a vacation property in Napa Valley and stumbled upon a historic property left in shambles, taken over by brush and practically forgotten. During due diligence, we found that the soil and micro-climate happen to be suitable for world class wine! The property also had an extremely coveted winemaking permit that had very favorable permissions “grandfathered in.” I decided immediately to pair my science background with my passion for art and design and we created Theorem Vineyards. For the first 6 years, I handled almost every aspect of the project myself. We built a rockstar winemaking and viticulture team in those years and by the time most of our winery construction was complete in 2018, we added to the team and evolved into the winery, hospitality and experience brand that we are today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were certainly struggles along the way. Learning to navigate the wine industry, tourism, local and national laws, the construction of 6 buildings, farming, fires, and on and on, you could definitely say we have had our challenges. But I also learned to see opportunities in every setback. It has been in those moments that we have risen the highest. It’s important to have a healthy tolerance for risk and a thick skin.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Theorem is an experience brand. We seek to unlock what is special about our land and allow guests to bond with that in a luxurious setting. It’s a glimpse into a more curated life, crafted thoughtfully and intentionally – from estate grown wine to food to hospitality. Every detail is an expression of us personally and with that, Theorem will always remain distinctive. The best way to experience our brand is to visit our Estate and see firsthand how we care for each aspect of the land and what it reveals to us.
Any big plans?
Our plan is to continue showcasing our wines through food and experience. We have expanded our gardens in Napa and cattle ranch in Montana so that we may move more and more toward using only what we cultivate. Our hospitality program will continue to expand over the next few years as well. Exciting things to come…
