Meet Lakesha Holmes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lakesha Holmes.

Lakesha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a native of Baytown, Texas. I have been practicing law for over fifteen years. After graduating from Spelman College and Thurgood Marshall School of Law, I began my career as an attorney in the Litigation and Oil & Gas practice groups of Thompson & Knight, LLP, where I represented businesses of all sizes in diverse legal matters. After about five years, I moved in house to Total Petrochemicals & Refining USA, Inc., a subsidiary of TOTAL, S.A., the fifth largest publicly traded integrated oil and gas company in the world. In this role, I provided legal support for logistics, procurement, HR, and risk management teams.

In 2017, I founded the Law Office of Lakesha D. Holmes, PLLC. My practice focuses on helping clients build and protect their brands and grow profitable businesses through the application of business, trademark, and nonprofit law, as well as building a legacy for their families through estate planning.

Growing up in my small town, I spend many hours in the hamburger diners owned by my grandfather. At an early age, I learned about the hard work required to run a small business and the obstacles that entrepreneurs have to overcome to keep their businesses going. I have always been inspired by hearing business ideas and I love developing creative solutions to help clients overcome obstacles to manifesting their visions. I am also passionate about working with business owners and families to implement a plan that will create a legacy for their families. I believe in educating my clients about their legal issues and helping them become confident in their business and estate-planning goals.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has definitely not always been smooth. There have been a lot of highs and lows in both my professional and personal lives. This year has been especially challenging as my best friend died and few months later, I was diagnosed with cancer. But I don’t know of any successful person who hasn’t had challenges. What I have learned is that the people who succeed in life are the ones who meet challenges head-on, keep pushing and persevere. Even when challenges disrupt the order of my life, I usually come out stronger and with my faith strengthened.

We’d love to hear more about your business.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
YES! The Houston area is consistently ranked as an ideal location for entrepreneurs looking to launch a business. The things that make this area attractive are the low costs of living/workspace, talented workforce, investors, business educational opportunities and the diverse population. For me, it is more personal. Because this is my home, it is where I feel most connected and where I received most of my mentoring and training. So, it is important for me to use the tools that I’ve learned to help others in my community to make their entrepreneurial dreams a reality.
