Meet Lance Pique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lance Pique.

Compliments of his smooth and charismatic style, Lance Pique quickly gained notoriety for his vibrant melodies and clever lyrics. Lance is a genre ambiguous, pop-friendly, artist from Austin TX who spawned his music career while in the US Army. After returning from deployment in 2016, Lance used music as a therapeutic hobby to cope with the emotional stress he experienced. While in service, Lance received praise and inspiration to pursue music more seriously and slowly began to establish a significant fan base. Lance released his debut single Kickin Flave in 2017 with little to no promotion and garnered enough attention to encourage him to release his debut EP titled “Impulse” in late 2018. Impulse was an R&B flavored project inspired by Lance’s romantic encounters and showed many his potential to craft malleable yet memorable melodies. From the success of this release, Lance embarked on an incredibly productive 2019. With multiple successive EP’s; his pop-inspired “Two Birds, 1 Stoner”, his pop/rap nuanced EP, “Da Shake”, his club rap themed “Smokelore”, and his mellow, “stoner friendly” project “Cash a Vibe”. Lance has also released several singles throughout the year in addition to the release of his debut album Wander.”

Has it been a smooth road?
It has most definitely been a challenging experience. In the beginning, it was difficult to find producers that were willing to create instrumentals abstract from what was current to mainstream audiences. It was also a significant challenge in finding a team to build and grow with. So many individuals in music, for one reason or another, struggle with collaboration with talent from genres outside of their own.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m definitely known for creating stoner friendly music (laughing). I am a relaxed individual but I definitely also have moments where I am incredibly energetic. I believe this personality paradox is what causes me to have the pop/rap sound I’ve become known for. Many people do not expect me to try so many genres and to use the clever wordplay I use, so I feel like the intrigue is in the spontaneity.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Houston was the first city to truly embrace me. I love Houston. My family is Nigerian so the culture is kin to me. I definitely have love in Austin, but Austin has so many different factions of music that it is hard for someone like myself to make an influence in the way that I have in Houston.
