Meet LaQuisha Nelson

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaQuisha Nelson.

So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Black Girl Abroad was birthed from my desire to change up my norm and get uncomfortable.

August 2018, I embarked on a journey of a lifetime being able to work, live, and travel abroad. As I was preparing for my move to Kuwait, I remember googling “Black women in Kuwait.”

One search came up for Kahdijah Winters. I remember stalking her account and thinking this will be me one day.

There simply wasn’t enough information about Black American females moving abroad, although I knew a few who made this journey. So, Black Girl Abroad was created.

And I recently celebrated my 1-year Vlogiversary on July 29, 2019.

Has it been a smooth road?
Moving abroad and leaving everything you’re familiar with is NEVER a smooth road, no matter how prepared you think you are.

I believe before moving (whether it’s a new city, state, or country) always get your affairs in order. You don’t want to seem as if you’re running from responsibility.

Make sure all payable debit is settled, all your items are kept with trusty and reliable people, and that relationships are in order.

My biggest struggle has been the change in some of my interpersonal relationships. Before moving I thought everything would remain the same. I grew to understand that nothing is the same including yourself, and you have to be ok with progression and change.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Black Girl Abroad story. Tell us more about the business.
The Black Girl Abroad Brand is a resource for Black, young females, and friends to become stamped and cultured through my experiences in the Middle East.

There are a host of resources for the BGA Brand: vlog, podcast, YouTube channel, Twitter, and an online shop.

I believe in the empowerment of women and I am proud that BGA has connected with so many women who are wanting to move and travel abroad but don’t know where to start. I am also proud that my podcast has reached and connected to people worldwide. Shout to France, Australia, Great Britain, and the list continue. I am so grateful.

I believe what sets me apart from other vlogger is that I am a counselor and life coach. So, I encourage mental awareness and emotional healing before moving abroad. I offer services in life coaching, positive cognitive restoration, and monthly Bookclubs.

So, BGA is doing it all.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think as more millennials and younger generations are creating their own paths this industry will continue to grow and prosper. The World Wide Web is not leaving any time soon and as long as there is internet and an interest in traveling and living outside the box, this industry will always be in high demand.

As long as there are places to explore… this industry will thrive.

I see BGA growing in followers and influence and I am excited and prepared for the shift.
