Meet Laura Najera of Kekis Bakeshop in Sugarland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Najera.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Laura. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
7 years ago I was looking for cupcakes for my son’s baptism and I want them to be baked in a silver cupcake liner to match the theme. I went to a lot of stores to order but all of them told me the dough came frozen from the factory. I was surprised and disappointed, so I decided to learn how to bake.

Being a stay at home mom allowed me the flexibility to start taking classes. I started baking a lot and soon after my friends asked me to bake desserts for them, and then friends of friends. I continued taking baking classes in Monterrey, Mx, Houston, Sugarland, Austin and Mexico City.

After attending all the classes I started thinking about what a great opportunity it would be to teach baking classes to share all my skills and knowledge at a much affordable price with many people.

My college degree in Marketing and the social media boom helped me spread the word and attract people in the Houston area.

As of this day, I have more than 28 baking classes and I have been doing business for 6 years nonstop. I have 2 baking classes per week. I do baking parties, baking camps during summer, spring break, Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks. and also sell custom cakes and cookies on a weekly basis.

Has it been a smooth road?
It sure has been a challenge to manage two little ones and do the classes at my house. My house has to be clean all the time and having two energetic kids represents extra work. Just like any work from home, it takes a lot of organization.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Kekis Bakeshop – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
What I enjoy most besides teaching classes is to make cookies, I believe the quality of product and the detail I put into my work speak for itself.

What sets me apart in my classes is that I build a close relationship with my costumers and I give them both the opportunity to make great products for their kids and the “go-to-market” idea to be able to work from home and make an extra income.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the diversity and the continuing growth of the city which allows me to have new customers from all different places in the world looking to learn something new. One of the disadvantages about living in such a large city is the distance between places. Unfortunately, many customers don’t have the way or time to get to me.
