Today we’d like to introduce you to Luis Flores.
Luis, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
What got me into rapping was the uniqueness of it, the amount variety and history that came along with this genre is what made it different from other types of music all the past legends and artist before me that made it what it is today. The very first rapper that I ever listened to was Eminem he’s what started it all for me he was the one that led me to believe I could do this if I worked hard. So that’s what I did at the age of seven I wrote my first rap and it sucked but I didn’t stop there I kept getting better and better over the years and once I moved to alief at the age of 10, that’s when my life changed. Not gonna lie I was shy at first took me two years to open up and let people know I could rap.
I was 13 going into high school when I decided to make a change in how I would do my music I made the right choice cause I was able to perform my first show my sophomore year at NRG and from then on the rest is history show after show people coming up to me with bigger better opportunities saying “I’m what’s missing in this current generation” it was a dream come true and I couldn’t be the man I am today without my music.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing in life is ever a smooth road. Everyone struggles in life, especially if they’re going after there dreams. My whole life has been a struggle people doubting me trying to bring me down, saying I don’t deserve to be successful and have the friends that have my back no matter what. Along with Trying to find the perfect studio, having the money for studio time, not having a car to be able to get to shows all these have been challenges but the worst struggle of all is losing inspiration there have been times where I’ve wanted to quit and to be honest I almost did but luckily I didn’t and I’m still here no matter how many times I get writer’s block cause I know that one hit song will come to me no matter how long it takes.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am a 17-year-old rapper from Alief, whose main goal is to inspire others, share my voice, teach people right from wrong and share the struggles me or other people have been through. What makes me different from other artists is that I don’t curse in my music I’m a clean artist there’s not a single cuss word throughout any of my songs. Another aspect about my music that makes it unique is that it’s not only for adults it’s meant for multiple generations I’ve had kids, teenagers, adults and elderly people tell me that they enjoy listening to my music and that’s what I’m most proud about that I can share my voice/talent with everybody no matter their age.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Honestly, I’m not really the type of person that likes to dwell on the past thinking back to my childhood I try not to remember the old me back then I was a completely different person and I enjoy who I am now but as far as good memories go I would have to say a memory I had from two years ago when I performed at my high school pep rally is my favorite memory. It was my first pep rally and I was performing in front of the people I see on a daily basis, so I was extremely nervous, but it was crazy I only was able to get a couple of words out and next thing I know a whole gymnasium full of students are rushing me hyping me and screaming my name LUI LUI LUI!!! That’s something I won’t ever forget.
