Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynn Delaney.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Well, I initially started vlogging as a way to heal over a difficult heartbreak. I’d fallen in the right kind of love with the wrong kind of guy and it hurt. Months earlier I’d broken off from a stagnant relationship and when I met him–I call him “Chocolate” it just felt right…it felt perfect. What I know now through what I’ve learned through writing my ebook “How to turn your pain into purpose” and vlogging via my YouTube channel is a lot of times we see what we want to see instead of reality. When reality hit me–it hit hard and all I could do to heal myself and get through it was to talk…to the people via my channel, to God, to my girlfriends, and to a therapist. Here I am over a year later and I have grown so much and learned so much in the process. In this time, I have built my YouTube following to nearly 4k, my Journey To Be Me Facebook to over 2k and I have also started my own line of men’s grooming products that I call Richard Wash Grooming.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Can anyone say their life has been a smooth road? If so, where are these people? I’d like to meet them! No, it has not been easy. Sharing the most vulnerable part of myself weekly has not been easy at all. But, man the growth! I wouldn’t trade this woman I am today for anything–not even if I could go back in time and erase the massive hurt that was the catalyst for that growth. The woman who lived through that is no longer with us–but the “me” that I am today…SHE loves herself, SHE is authentic and SHE is unafraid to be unabashedly herself. So, I guess thats why “Journey To Be Me” always appealed to me because we all are on a journey to get to our truest, most authentic self. Essentially the only thing I’ve struggled with is balancing the time between what I NEED to do, what I HAVE to do, and what I WANT to do.
Journey To Be Me/Richard Wash Grooming – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’ll answer this in two ways. First, from the aspect of what I do through YouTube and vlogging and then from the aspect of the men’s grooming line. I said it on one of my videos a few months back when I celebrated a year of vlogging via YouTube. I’m the most proud of the level of consistency I’ve shown throughout this whole thing. I can’t seem to stay consistently in the gym or out of the mall but I have been consistent with creating content to share with others. I really enjoy it. As far as RWG goes, what sets my products apart is that they are handmade and use no artificial ingredients. I have handcrafted a special beard balm for men using butters and essential oils. It is my own blend created after researching what natural ingredients were the best. In addition, I have also added a beard shampoo to the line.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I guess what I do is so personal that it’s hard for me to think of it as a “career”. But, I would say my proudest moment would be when I caught my seven years old daughter in the mirror pretending to do her own vlog. She was repeating one of the videos I did about not taking it personal if you discover that someone doesn’t like you. One, it showed me that she was listening and hopefully got what I was trying to say and two, her emulating me shows that she looks up to me. I hope I make her proud by living life as a positive uplifting example.
