Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Celestine.
Hi Marcus, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started drawing in the 4th grade when I fell in love with cartoons. I never took it seriously. It was just a hobby. I actually forgot I could draw. I got laid off 3 jobs in a row and decided I was gonna figure out how to make a way for myself. One day I was getting a tattoo and saw the art on the walls of the shop and remembered how much I loved to draw. Ever since then, 2015, I’ve been pushing myself to be the best visual artist I could be in this lifetime.
I want to make more people art collectors, see what I’m capable of, and leave my son something to inherit.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This journey hasn’t been smooth at all. Financially, mentally, or geographically challenging. The biggest challenge for me is to keep pushing when it feels like it’s not paying off. There’s no giving up for me though. That’s not an option.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in visual arts. My favorite thing to draw is anime and comics. I also do expression art, portraits, landscapes, etc. I think my biggest strength is my range. I’m capable of many different styles. I think what sets me apart is my ability to do multiple types of drawings from black and grey realism to comic panels
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Honestly, I don’t think much about risks. I’m so used to taking losses that I react the same whether something works out for me or it doesn’t. Just keep going. With every loss is a lesson. With every win is a lesson.
