Today we’d like to introduce you to Margaret Fahnbulleh. She and her team share her story with us below.
Please kick things off for us.
Margaret “Mags” Fahnbulleh is a Hairstylist, Colorist, & owner of FAB The Salon in Houston, TX. With over a decade of professional experience, at the age of 14, she started styling the hair of family and friends where she discovered an innate talent for turning visions into creations. But, Mag’s very first client was Barbie!
In pursuit of a college education, this “California Girl” moved to Houston, TX to attend Texas Southern University. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication, Mags decided to carve out her own path of becoming a hairstylist and entrepreneur.
Over the years, her fabulous personality coupled with a strong work ethic, unique creativity and an eye for what’s O SO FAB – has helped Mags create and run a successful business that takes her beyond the chair. She is an international educator with Farouk Systems, Inc. (makers of the legendary CHI iron), a platform Artist and featured Partner Stylist for Indique Hair Extensions and an instructor for Indique’s Pro Education Series. Readers from around the world can leaf through hair books and magazines to find some of Mags’ captured work.
In 2014, she was a recipient of Houston’s “Top 40 Under 40” to watch within the beauty industry. She is also the recipient of The Knot Best of weddings 2018 pick.
In her spare time, Mags enjoys practicing yoga, learning about the Law of Attraction, spending time with the love of her life (her six year old nephew) and giving back to her community.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have been very blessed in business because most of my ideas have ultimately worked out. However, my greatest struggle in business has when I opened my salon three years ago & had to start all over. The beginning was not as smooth as I thought it would be. Although I had been a stylist for about nine years, it felt like I was starting all over again. I had to rebuild my clientele and change my business model. I had to rebuild fast because I had invested my life’s savings in buying the place & renovations. So it was a lot of pressure and hard work, but I rebuilt my business in two years.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
FAB is Houston’s premiere Color & Blowout Boutique Salon located in the heart of the Historic Houston Heights. We believe that beauty is individual. Thus, we create looks to compliment her lifestyle and bring out the special beauty of each of our guests. Regardless of if its a FAB New cut, or our signature FAB Blowout with FAB color, we make sure each of our guests leaves looking and feeling O SO FAB! And that’s what we pride ourselves on. Our space is really beautiful, but it is the great energy, our focus on education, and our spirit of excellence that sets us apart from others. When you enter the doors of FAB, you are not just a time slot; you are our guest. We offer our guests a drink; the most popular is our FABosas, & refreshments. They feel at home relaxing or engaging in an entertaining or awesome conversation…That’s the FAB difference!
What were you like growing up?
People know me because of my personality. I have always been the life of the party, especially growing up. Now that I am getting older, I feel a need to bring it down a bit. Growing up, I was the class clown, the one who made everybody laugh. I was the joy of my family, my family is very reserved, so I was the spice, and they loved it! I enjoyed making others happy. Whether it was doing something silly like dancing out of nowhere or telling a silly joke. Maggie is defiantly a VIBE & I try to spread my light everywhere I go!
