Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariana Monterrubio.
Hi Mariana, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Mariana Monterrubio and I wear many hats just like most women. I’m a Jesus girl, wife, mom, Yaya, fur mom.
I was born and raised a BOI (Born on Island) of Galveston, Texas. I love the outdoors and reading a good book. In 2005 I was a twice divorced mom with three children and a high school diploma. Most of my 20s I was a stay at home mom who ended up living a life full of struggles. I decided it was time to take back my life and in 2008, I graduated and received my Bachelor’s degree in business management. Fast forward 13 years later MAMI on a Mission LLC was born offering Life and Career Coaching services to help women overcome their fears and persue the dreams that God as called them to have.
September 2022 MAMI on a Mission Podcast launched to provide weekly inspirational, motivational and encouraging messages.
.Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My life’s journey has been far from smooth. Living with a drug-addicted husband was a challenging experience that I had not anticipated. It felt oddly normal, perhaps due to my father’s workaholic, abusive, and alcoholic behavior. Although I knew this was not normal, I was naive at the time. One night, as I was pregnant with my daughter, I received a threatening phone call from someone searching for my ex-husband’s money. The caller threatened to kill me and my children if he didn’t pay up. Out of fear, I stole money from my mother and sisters. Unfortunately, this was not the only time I resorted to stealing. I was 25 years old when I finally left him after five years. Six months later, the Galveston Police Department informed me that I was being charged with forgery. It was a terrifying and relieving moment in my life because I could finally fight back for the life I was meant to live. Fortunately, I was able to avoid going to prison, but I received probation and had to pay restitution. Despite these challenges, I went back to college and returned home to confront and share everything with my family. It was an emotional roller coaster with feelings of anxiety, depression, anger, and sadness. However, I learned to forgive those who hurt me and help those whom God wants me to help. Today, I am a true testimony to the fact that you can overcome even the toughest obstacles in life and turn your life around.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about MAMI on a Mission! LLC?
For the past 13 years, I have served as a Career and Life Coach with various non-profit organizations across Houston, helping individuals from different walks of life discover their career path and negotiate their salaries. While each of my clients has a unique story, I have seen that everyone experiences sadness, depression, and a loss of identity or self-worth at some point in their lives.
As a coach, I love working with everyone, but my true passion lies in working with Latina women, which is why I launched MAMI on a Mission! LLC in July 2023. Our mission is to empower Latina and all women to reach their impossible goals, one dream at a time. In September of the same year, I launched the MAMI on a Mission Podcast, which has been a great addition to our support system, helping women thrive and succeed.
As a coach, my approach is to listen without judgment and work closely with my clients towards their goals- be it employment, financial or life goals. While I am not a therapist, I do help them put the pieces of their puzzle together while they work on their mental health. What sets me apart from other coaches is that I am a Latina who has been through it all and can relate to many of my clients’ stories. I strive to show them that they don’t have to believe the lies that they have heard and that there are strong Latina women representing them and helping them find their voice in this broken world.
I take pride in my work when I see my clients thrive and succeed. Thanks to the guidance of The Book Publishing Academy, “MAMI on a Mission,” my first book, will be launched in July 2023. I am thrilled to continue spreading my message of empowerment to even more women.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The Growing Popularity of Coaching: Life, Career, and Financial Coaching is on the rise each year, and it’s no wonder why. We all need someone to push us when we feel like we can’t go any further, to tell us the truth, and to help us break through our limits. While therapy can be a great initial step, coaching can work alongside it to help us achieve even greater things.
As someone who has been in the industry for a long time, I have seen firsthand the benefits of coaching. We all work towards goals, but when the going gets tough and we feel like giving up, coaches are there to keep us motivated and on track.
My very first speaking engagement will take place in July at RISE Girl Rise Gathering in Fort Worth, Texas. Additionally, I’m developing modules consisting of videos and workbooks to help people achieve their goals from anywhere, using just a computer.
